Defunding CPB

So why do the proposed cuts approximate the proposed increases? Is that just coincidence?

Isn’t it true that when people propose spending increases, they frequently propose some way of paying for those spending increases like a new tax or cuts elsewhere in the budget?

Assuming that is the case, then how the fuck do the military increases NOT have something to do with the cuts to CPB and NPR?

In an effort to make the sport more visually exciting, the world taekwondo federation adopted a bunch of rules. I think a lot of this is poorly thought out but one thing in particular is a particularly bad idea IMHO:

“To make the game more continuous, it was proposed that automatic penalties be removed for pushing – so allowing players to push and kick, thereby encouraging combination attacks. Those pushed will – if they fall to the ground – suffer a penalty. (This, it is hoped, will encourage athletic balance). However, pushing an opponent over the boundary, or pushing an opponent while he/she is kicking, remain sanctioned.”

This has led some local tournaments in my area turning into a shoving match. I don’t know if it is bad interpretation of the rules by local officials or if it is simply an unintended consequence of a rule that is permissive on pushing.

It has always been allowed to shove your opponent who had moved inside of kicking range to get them back out to kicking range. But this rule seems to let you push your opponent to the edge of the may and then kick him over the line.

I understand the desire to be higher profile and appeal to a broader audience but noone gives a shit about pretty flashy events unless their country is winning gold. Boxing doesn’t allow pushing and they seem to be doing OK as an Olympic sport. If you want to move away from taekwondo as the martial arts version of fencing then just get rid of the padding from everywhere but the head.

So you’re over the public broadcasting thing?

Can someone delete post number 62? It was supposed to be in another thread. oops, department of energy.
