Delayed Flights?

The rules of worship in the Brobdingnagian Orthodox Church are liberal and subject to personal interpretation, so do what would please you most.

As if I would fly to Wendover when SLC now has some perfectly good bars.

I’ll admit my statistics may be a bit skewed from the norm since I catch a lot of late flights and do cross-country three hops to fairly obscure airports like PHF and BDL, but I’ve been hung up in a lot of non-weather-related delays by airlines which are well-known for being chronic offenders, which at last count includes about 80% of US domestic carriers. Even the once reliable Southwest—still my preference when they’re cost-competitive for work—has left me on the tarmac for over an hour on a couple of occasions. I dearly wih Midwest Express was still flying; comfortable seats, warm cookies, and excellent service with virtually no delays or cancellations. Instead, I’m frequently forced on American and United with their often surly attendants, poorly maintained aircraft, and indifference to schedules rivaled only by Italian bus drivers.

Stranger

But it seems that airlines don’t let common sense interfere with their surly manner of dealing with flight delays.

Just before Christmas by mother was flying to Waco, TX to visit her mother for the holidays. Her flight to DFW was uneventful but the onward flight to Waco was cancelled due to the Waco airport be fogged in. OK. Stuff happens.

But the poorly handled issue is that when mom and a few fellow passengers asked about getting their checked bags, renting a car on their own dime, and driving the two or so hours to Waco the American Airlines staff was unyielding. They warned my mother that they would cancel her entire return ticket if she did that and that they could not provide her her checked luggage that night. She was stuck with an uncomfortable overnight in the DFW airport awaiting the next available flight.

I don’t doubt that you are lucky with flights, but why do you accuse others of lying when they haven’t had the same luck. It is possible that you are very lucky when it comes to flights…and other people are very unlucky - that doesn’t mean either of you are lying, just that your experiences have been different. Perhaps its the airlines. Perhaps its the nature of flights you take. Perhaps the routes you usually travel on.

But that’s only if you get the precheck. SWMBO and I both went through that and got our numbers. We fly twice a year to major tournaments. So, round trip to Orlando and round trip to Las Vegas. On at least one of those legs, one or the other of us will NOT get the little check mark on the boarding pass. When we complain to TSA, we are told the airline is in charge of it. When we complain to the airline, we are told TSA is in charge of it.

How are you “staying ahead” in this scenario?

How am I staying ahead of the weather when I’m stuck on the tarmac in B’ham, AL because of thunderstorms in DC, when I’m on my way home to Boston? Weather is going to get you eventually, no matter what you do.
