I was reading a new thread very early Friday AM, from some guy who appeared to not be a native English speaker, about how Hitler really wasn’t such a bad guy. Considering it was in the wee hours of the morning, it got quite a few responses, including from at least one mod (tomndebb), and I thought it was pretty entertaining the way the guy would justify his thesis — I even learned something, since he brought up the Holodomor as one of his many “tu quoque” examples, and I hadn’t heard of it before (which worries me, because I should have).
The guy clearly had a tenuous relationship with reality, but no more so than the people who won’t admit the police are ever wrong when shooting people, or who won’t admit any of the Republican presidential candidates are loons and/or pander to loons, and he did offer some cites, although they included the likes of Mein Kampf, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and a book by Pat Buchanan.
I didn’t post to it, but before I went to bed, I subscribed to it. I looked for it tonight, to get some more entertainment, and it seems to have vanished. Not in my subscribed list, no results when I search for it, and not in the last day’s worth of threads when I searched the likely categories.
I feel cheated. As I said, I found it very entertaining, and even slightly informative. And I think it’s interesting to see how people can defend literally anything.
So:
- was it deleted?
- if so, why delete it rather than just closing it, if it got too racist or whatever?
