I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop going in for repairs and with three laptops floating around the house and subsequent RAM upgrades, I don’t remember which stick came with it. I obviously don’t want to send it back to them with an expensive Crucial 512mb jobber.
Can anybody cite which brands and/or types of ram shipped with the Dell Inspiron 8000 PIII 700?
From their site, it says my original config was:
Quantity Part # Part Description
2 4395P Dual In-Line Memory Module, 64, 100M, 8X64, 4K, 144
I take it that it came with two 64mb DIMMs, correct? What other identifying marks might be given away with those specs?
Can anybody provide insight to the brand?
Sorry, but I’ve got a lot of old RAM laying around.
It’s hard to say. If the memory has nothing to do with the repairs they might just ignore it. But sometimes Tech Support can get a bug up their @#& and fixate on it. One of my desktop PCs had what turned out to be a failed hard drive. When I called for support (a 3 1/2 hour call with someone speaking English as a recently learned second or third language) They fixated on the fact that my computer was sold with a CD-ROM drive and now had a CD-ROM and a DVD-ROM. I disconnected the DVD and we went on. Then he fixated on the fact that I had a second hard drive (“I’m not authorized to diagnose a computer with a second hard drive”). I pulled the second drive and all cables relating to it and then I had to explain over and over for 5 minutes that it is now a single drive system and we can move forward.
Since it sounds like you are sending it in for service they will probably just ignore the memory if it is factory equivalent and not part of the problem with the computer.
