Delta Airlines in-flight amenities

I’ll soon be traveling on Delta and I’m wondering if they offer free headphones for the in-flight movie and if not, how much they are selling for these days. I can also bring along my own set if I know what kind of adapter they have for the headphones.

I’ll be in economy on a 737-800 plane.

How long is the flight? If it’s less than two and a half hours you’ll be lucky to get pretzels. I was on a flight recently where they charged for soft drinks and bottled water (not Delta).

On international flights the headphones are free, domestically $3.00. They used a dual pin adapter.

I’ve flown Delta/NWA a few times recently, but only on shorter flights. They still give free drinks and a token snack (a cookie or a packet of nuts). Other than that, nothin’, not even an in-flight movie. This was on ~2.5 hour flights. Dunno what they do for longer flights.

Also in my latest DL flight in August, the headphone they sold actually has a detachable dual-to-single plug adapter, which I found very convenient for future use.

Not sure what the headset costs as I used my own, but movies are $6.00. This was on a 4.5 hour, cross-country flight. TV, complete with commercials, is free however.

Slight hijack, when I flew Hawaiian a few weeks ago, they charged $5 for their headphone (dual jack type). They also said that there was a $5 charge for using your own headphone, but I didn’t see any of the flight attendants try to collect that from anyone. I used my own headphones at no cost to me, though I did watch “Night in the Smithsonian”, which did incur some psychic toll.

Pretty much everything to know here.

Was this on a Delta flight? I’m assuming you had a screen on the seatback in front of you?

vd I found that site just after I posted. My google-fu is usually very weak which is why I posted before searching. I should have known better.

The way Delta has been going, I wouldn’t be surprised if, by the time you board the plane they’re charging for pillows, “floatation devices” (your seat back) and maybe even for upgrades from Standing Room Only.

Isn’t the bigger concern whether they will even have inflight entertainment?

I have about 10 sets of the Delta headphones (they were all free, as I used to fly Delta all the time on “buddy passes”) and if you would like, I would be happy to send you a brand new pair.

(they weigh about nothing, and it would only cost a dollar or so to mail, and I just happen to have a few stamps burning a hole in my pocket)

Let me know…

I flew Delta/Northwest three times (six total flights) in the past two weeks.

I can confirm that you will get one soda and your choice of pretzels, peanuts, or Biscoff cookie free of charge on every flight, regardless of length. (I got a drink and cookie on a thirty-minute flight.)

Of all my flights, there was only in-flight entertainment (an episode of Parks and Recreation, the Simpsons, and some terrible-looking show called Royal Pains) on one (the longest flight, 3.5 hours). For that flight, they sold headsets for $5, I think. I wasn’t really paying attention to the price as I had no intention of buying them. I tried using my own, but I only could get a high-pitched squeal out of them when plugged in. I don’t know if that is because I needed the two-prong converter or what, but I wasn’t going to pay $5 to watch Royal Pains!

I just flew Delta between Washington DC and San Diego a few weeks ago. Cookies and drinks were provided. Normal 3.5mm headphones worked with the in flight entertainment. The trivia game repeated a lot of the questions so my scores were much higher on the way back than the way out.

I don’t really intend to pay $5 for a headset, either. That is why I was asking if I could use my own. I’ll be traveling with 3 kids so having the in-flight entertainment can help, but it isn’t everything. We have a portable DVD player but I was hoping to avoid having to haul that around. My kids are also voracious readers and do very well on flights even without a movie, but having access to the movie would have helped. I personally plan to sleep as much as I can. We have to be up at 3:00 am to catch our flight!

Eh, $5 are a bit excessive. On my last Delta flight (less than a month ago), they were about $2. If you wanted something that was not the coach “free movie of the month”, you had to pay for it.

And if you’re nice to your flight attendants, you may squeak by another set of pretzels or munchies.

Delta is not that bad, for someone flying coach. The other day I was lucky and in the 3-4 hour flight, we got the nifty individual entertainment screens that are on the back of the seat in front of you.

Now, American Airlines… that be crappy, IME.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had trivia on our way to Vegas last March. I was tearing that plane up, I tell you. I think it’s cute and fun that when you then go to the bathroom you’re trying to get a look at 32F or whoever.

It’s actually the seat bottom. I spend about 4 hours earlier this week under the seats of a new Delta 737 hooking up the seats for the in flight entertainment. It’s easier for a big guy like me to get under the seats by removing the seat bottoms. The seat backs are a permanent part of the seat assembly.

How many errors did you notice? The little more about this information for one question said that Tomas Edison invented the telegraph. What the name you choose when you play. If you ever see Gordo there is a good chance it is me.

When I’ve flown, it seemed that the in-flight entertainment system involved a big box of electronics strapped to the space below the aisle seats, and taking away a chunk of the storage space I could otherwise use for my stuff.
