Delta SkyMiles Question

Due to a miscalculation on my part, I finished last year with 99,600 miles on Delta, just short of Platinum Medallion status. Is there anything I can do at this point to get over the hump, or am I (as I suspect) out of luck?

Double check your statements to make sure all of your flight segments were credited. Sometimes travel agents or whoever fail to forward your number when you make the reservation. If any segment was missing, send a request to be credited along with (a copy of) your boarding pass. I think there’s a limit to how far back you can do this, but can’t remember off the top of my head.

Other than that, I think you’re out of luck.

Make sure all your class-of-service bonus miles, and any other bonuses, are credited for every flight you took.

Make sure all your rental car and hotel bonus miles are also credited.

Or just try calling their service number, explaining the situation, and very nicely asking if they could do a courtesy for a very frequent customer. The agent almost certainly has authority to do that regardless of your actual mileage. It’s probably even easier than telling you that you missed by 1 lousy segment out of 100,000 miles, so tough luck, and good luck at the next airline you try.

Or just keep flying.

From today’s Wall Street Journal:
“Delta is offering another chance for its Gold, Silver or Platinum Medallion members that were within 5,000 miles or 10 segments, as of Dec. 31, to attain the same level. To maintain their elite status for 2001, Silver members must fly 4,000 miles between Jan. 31 and March 31; Gold members, 8,000; Platinum members, 15,000.”
