I’m currently registered with the Delta SkyMiles program, but I’m unsure as to how I “get” those miles credited to my account. Does Delta automatically notice that I’m flying with them? There doesn’t seem to be anything on their website that indicates I need to tell them I’m flying with them and what account needs to be associated.
Thanks.
You sign up for Delta miles program. Then when you book flights you put in your number, usually within 30 days of your flight the miles show up.
If you forget to put in your number, you have a certain number of days to have them added to you account, it varies from airline to airline.
If you’re not signed up for Delta Miles, you don’t get any. So sign up and then have them applied retroactively. A customer service agent will know how to do this
In the case of Qantas, I was issued with a card and I present that at checkin which ensures my number is associated with the flight.
Ex-Delta Platinum Member here. It is always much, much, much easier to make sure you enter your Skymiles number at the time you book your ticket. Getting Delta to give you credit for miles flown if you don’t do so can be frustrating to impossible.
I have had, at one time or another, about 8 or so different FF accounts, including Delta. In every case you have to provide your frequent flyer number when booking the flight, or at the very latest when checking in for the flight.
You can also write to get credit after a flight, but you usually have to provide your boarding pass. They don’t simply look up in their records and say, “Oh, yes, of course, our modernized billion-dollar computer system shows that you were on that flight.” To my surprise I was able to do this online recently, without mailing anything in. I can’t remember the airline, but I only made two trips last year and one was Southwest and the other was Air France.
