Democratic convention 2008 discussion thread

Everything else that was said in that post was just a history (albeit interesting) of contentious primary/conventions. Followed by a conclusion stating that because Hillary is a woman, anything she does isn’t enough. Hogwash; she’s no victim.

If the perception is that she hasn’t done enough it’s because she’s a politician/Clinton/conniver/whatever, not because she’s a woman.

Good God. Talk about drinking the kool-aid. What is wrong with you people? Where’s your self respect? Are you transferring your unrealized hopes and dreams from your downtrodden lives to characters in the political theater who claim to be fighting for you? We’re talking about the Democratic Party, the Clintons, and Obama. They’re well paid cogs in a hegemonic political machine who don’t care one whit about you or your views – unless your name is AT&T, perhaps.

The names have been omitted to protect the guilty.

Embarrassing. Politics truly is the greatest soap opera, I guess.

But Perrin was spot on in his latest post.

I really hope Obama wins. I don’t know if I can bare to see the pwogs continue their self abuse of the last eight years. And it’ll be so much fun when he reasserts America’s moral authority on the world. gulp

I will proudly be wearing my Obama T-shirt to work tomorrow.

Ah, hard-hearted cynicism. Let’s be embarrassed by those who take these things seriously. Because we all know nobody gets emotional over politics. That’s why it’s the number one dinner conversation all across America.

Everybody, grab ahold of your nutsacks and stop caring so fucking much!

i must be watching way toooo much cnn. i’ve been hearing way too much “her speech was to much clinton and not enough obama.” “she didn’t say this, she didn’t say that”. i do hope that what she did on the floor tonight, along with what she said the night before, will give it a bit of a rest.

in gov. reagan’s run against ford, and sen. kennedy’s run against pres. carter the 24/7 “best political teams” and the internet spotlight wasn’t quite there yet. they had 3 networks and pbs. it wasn’t as intense.

i don’t know if it is because obama/clinton when on for so long and was so close. or because of clinton being a former first lady, instead of solely a senator. or because she is a woman. or just the information 24/7 age we are in. the pressure and parsing of every move she makes and everything she says is unreal.

Yeah, but what about those of us without nutsacks (of our own, anyway)? What’s a poor girl to do? See, there you go again, playing the gender card!

Are you alleging that there’s been no pressure and parsing of every move and every utterance of Barack Obama? And would you infer that it’s because of his race somehow?

Hillary Clinton has been taken more seriously and given more opportunities than any other woman in the history of our politics. And she has accomplished more than any other woman in history, as well. This focus on her genitalia as having somehow been a detriment to her is not only utterly confusing to me, but frankly, as a woman, somewhat offensive, as well.

The talking and milling about during Warner’s speech last night, I thought was a fluke. But now I realize that if these speeches seem boring, it’s because the delegates are acting bored.

They’re acting as if “content” isn’t enough for them. But when a prime-time star is up there, it’s all-out gusto, like that’s all they are there for.

I voted for 2 of them, and if I see either of them yammering on cell phones or milling about while good substantive points are being made by the leaders of the party, I will blame them personally if Obama loses.

C’mon guys, a great speech takes a speaker and an audience.

Are they hung-over, or just too cool for school, waiting to be seen on prime time TV?

Bill’s up and he’s right on target–go Bill! I’ve been upset that he’s been so negative during the campaign, it’s really nice to see him on board. You da man, Bill, not so good at keeping it in your pants but you done good for the country! Mad propz to the old man…

Bill’s on his game tonight. I had almost forgotten how good he can be at a podium.

i do think that both clinton and obama have been under a much, much, higher degree of intensity. and part of that is ethinic backround and gender, as both of them broke through barriers and opened the way to a better country.

i do think that if either of them made the sort of gaffs that mccain has in this election so far, they both would have been blown past pluto by the reaction.

I’m getting a little choked up. How is Biden going to follow this?

Was that a joke? Bill Clinton talking on family values? His family values end at the tip of a cigar.

Bill kicked ass. I think that was the best speech of the week, so far. He gave an unreserved endorsement to Obama and hammered the shit out Bush/McCain. Great job.

I will take Clinton’s values. Bill Clinton did it tonight.

Bring on Biden!

At least he didn’t abandon his family for a beer heiress half his age.

Absolutely brilliant. He put his foot right up McCain’s ass and kicked him out of the ballpark. He did exactly what he should have done to protect this great nation, that he once had the honor and privilege to lead. Great job Mr. President. You regained some of the respect I lost towards you during the primaries. Thank you!

“More impressed with the power of our example than by the example of our power.”

Fabulous soundbite, great going Bill!

W00t!

I didn’t say that McCain was right, but Clinton has no right to attempt to take the high ground in that regard.

Best line of the speech:
