Democratic National Convention August 19-22 2024

Just seeing this story on the local Chicago news: a group of people (protesters?) came into one of the hotels hosting DNC delegates this morning, and apparently placed maggots on some of the tables where breakfast was being served to the delegates.

Just saw where Stevie Wonder will be performing tonight also. Wow!

Tonight’s theme: “A Fight for Our Freedoms.”

Another speaker, just announced as a late addition:

Oprah Winfrey.

Whoa! Gonna be quite the night.

You can find multiple vids of Trump playing CGI mini-accordions while doing said hand movements.

Has anyone heard when/if Adam Kinzinger is speaking?

She damn well better apologize for creating Dr. Oz.

And Dr. Phil. Totally agree.

I Iiked how he has this little, “Oops, how did my hands do that?” look as he looks down.

I think he’s on Thursday. Of the Republicans, he’s got the best anti-Trump cred, so they want him as a highlight of the last night, I think.

Thank you.

Button worn by a Minnesotan: VOTING IS MY BLACK JOB.

I loved that.

Minnesotans wearing red flannel. Rachel Maddow jokes to the reporter on the floor that flannel is also significant in her culture, and she’ll explain it to him when he’s older :couple_with_heart_woman_woman:

I really like these short, punchy speeches.

As I mentioned in a different thread, I might just have to make peace with that I may go to my grave “not getting it”.

Tonight is the first night I’ve checked in to the convention. I was really happy to see the video showing how Trump killed the border security bill. I hope that’s a commercial that gets played everywhere, and I really hope Harris hammers Trump on the point in the debate, when he invariably accuses the democrats of being weak on the border.

As I’ve been saying this week as the convention has progressed, I’ve really enjoyed the short videos produced by the Democrats, and shown between speakers. They’re a little too long to be TV commercials (maybe they would be with some editing), but regardless, I hope they’re made available on YouTube, and that Democrats plug their availability every chance they get.

Some pretty courageous Republicans speaking out tonight. Well done them.
