Assuming Al Gore had been legally allowed to be President:

  • If he swore after 9/11 to get Osama, the Republicans would have been jumping up and down on their soapboxes last year, calling Gore every name in the book for not having done it!

  • If gas prices went up to over $2.00 a gallon, every right wing columnist and yahoo with a truck would be going for Gore’s jugular.

  • If the surplus had gone to a deficit, Republicans would be livid as they screamed on the steps of the Capitol.

  • If there were even a hint of a war in Iraq, Republicans would have started screaming about “another Vietnam”.

  • And if you disagreed with Gore’s policies, nobody would accuse you of being anti-American.

Maybe it is time for Democrats to wake up and kick some ass!

Yeah…Actually, you haven’t mentioned the biggest thing which is 9/11 itself would have been blamed on Gore or Clinton/Gore. I remember a few Democrats who pointed out it was sort of lucky that 9/11 happened on the Republican watch and not the Democratic watch or else the politics of the whole thing would have gotten really really ugly.

Of course, the problem with “what ifs” is that you can never prove how things would have gone in the counterfactual case. But, I tend to personally agree with much of these speculations.
