Democrats will let terrorists go free

Of course you actually meant to type doGma, right? No crypto-monotheism-bashing here, nosirree!

And, of course, you are referring to Goddess Almighty, Hostess of Hosts…

John, short and sweet: good on you…even if I don’t know know what to make of you politically.

Cheers

Given that the majority are likely innocent of anything, that’s the right thing to do. Plus, we should apologize to them and pay them reparations, publically.

Of course they will. Specifically, I expect them to heavily tap the phones used by the higher ups in important Democrat’s offices, and their electoral campaigns. I strongly suspect that’s the main reason they wanted such warrentless wiretapping in the first place.

John Mace is, as far as I can tell, a utilitarian libertarian with the odd sharp edge of conservatism sticking out here and there. His political philosophy may be unique to the U.S.

You mean he’s a flip-flopper?

Only way we’re getting John down off that fence is to set it on fire.

I wish there were an icon for sad laughter. Because the fact is, the Republicans have put themselves in position to lose, and a party that had its shit together could beat the stuffing out of them. But the fact is, the Democrats coud fuck up naptime at this point, to say nothing of a general election. They might make a little ground but they will fail to capture either house in an election that ought to fall in their laps.

Another prediction from predictions-R-us.

Ain’t She a cupcake, huh?

Ugh. It makes me feel utterly sick that we passed this bill at all. A few weeks ago I read a commentary in my Yom Kippur prayerbook that posited that the death of the first born in Exodus was an unfortunate act that was made acceptable because Egyptian society as a whole condoned the torture of innocents. Where does that put us?

Sitting quietly in our living rooms, enjoying the patter of frogs on our roof…

A note on the photo linked in the OP: The podium President Bush is sitting at has the Presidential Seal, with a card attached, big letters: “Protecting America”. I don’t recall this sort of blatant reduction of terms on other photo op events. Did I miss something, is this a new trend? Not very classy.

I made the same prediction a couple weeks ago over here. The margins may be razor thin, but I don’t see the Pubs actually losing control of either house.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Thanks for the first part, and “good” for the second part. I hate labels and like to take each issue separately. For shorthand, I try to say that I lean libertarian or use Jonathan Chance’s phrase: Practical Libertarian. I don’t have much patience for the actual Libertarian Party. They’re just too wierd (to use a technical term).

One thing’s for sure-- I don’t want anyone around here to count on me to be on his/her side just because I agree with that person generally or to take the opposite side just because I disagree with that person generally. Hell, I even agree with you from time to time!

Yes, I remember that, but this seems more odd, to be attached to the podium like that. The aircraft carrier Mission Acomplished staging was more of a production; this was a of a paste up on the podium during a regular signing of a bill. Do we now get to see a reductionist message with every signing?

Really? I gotta go with the “big mo”, and the big mo is in favor of the Dems. The Republicans have maybe one week to get the big mo going back in their favor, but the odds of that look slim. And this time around, it’s the Pubbies who are making all the stupid mistakes.

One thing I heard on the news today that I hadn’t been aware of: When one party controlls both Houses, it’s unusual for the House to flip if the Senate doesn’t flip. Many pundits have been predicting a flip in the House, but not the Senate. History says that’s unlikely, and it kind of make sense since the Senate races are more easily nationalized than House races are.

Huh. That’s both surprising and counter-intuitive. Not to mention against the way the system is designed. Only 1/3 of the Senate is even up for flipping.

And Dewey will win going away.

Incumbents have a big edge and I’m not sure the “Congress is a mess but my guy is OK” attitude has disappeared. In addition so many house districts have been Gerrymandered, such as in Texas, that unless Republicans stay home in large numbers and every single Democrat turns out in the Gerrymandered districts the odds are against the ins losing a lot of seats. Of course it doesn’t take a lot, only 15 house (six senate but the senate is smaller and 6 is a lot), but even that may be too many.

And if the Democrats pick up 14 house and 5 senate you can bet that it will be a “resounding ratification of GW’s plan”, whatever that is, by the voters.

You guys in the Republican house districts vote early and often and tell your friends that it’s vital that they get off their asses and vote. But don’t put it quite that way.

www.electoral-vote.com says…
Projected New House*: 226 Democrats 205 Republicans 4 Ties
Senate: 50 Democrats 49 Republicans 1 tie

I… think there’s not much chance that the House is not going to go to the Dems.
The momentum does seem to be going democratic, based on the polls over time, too.

Senate’s still a tricky one. Not sure if they’ll get all 50.
