So I’m watching Denny “Big Boy” Hastert on TV yesterday. He is upset that millions of dollars we GAVE (voluntarily) to the Taliban for the War on Drugs ended up in Osama Bin Laden’s hands.
So I screamed at the TV, “Well who’s fucking fault is that, you moron? I was positive we could trust the Taliban with a blank check myself…more obscenity…grumbling…”
My God, have we become total incompetents at every aspect of foreign policy except writing checks and war making? More specifically, has the War on Drugs overwhelmed all other priorities of foreign policy? See also, Colombia.
All I can think of is that the U.S. linked the food aid to the Taliban for getting rid of the opium. Or, Hastert was lying. Or, he got his facts wrong. Or, I hallucinated. I (thought I) heard Hastert say OBL got our money and he was upset about it. He mentioned fighting drugs and money to Afghanistan.
Problem is, with all the news, I don’t see the stories repeated as usually is the case. Whatever, if old news, I will let it die.
Amazing, isn’t it, that these arseholes condemn the west for whatever does not suit their agenda, yet we send folk out to help feed them, whom they arrest and put on trial, but they are never short of the means to obtain weapons.
Now I see bleeding hearts saying we are going to make life hard for the ordinary citizens of Afghanistan because we have withdrawn most if not all the NGO’s who try to bring a smidgeon of relief to their desparate lives (including Medecin sans frontieres which has a reputation for toughing it out)
Talk of biting the hand off that feeds you, maybe the leaders of the Taliban should consider such matters before they hate us, now they will get the chance to find out how to live without our aid, fuck them !
I’m not sure exactly what you’re big idea is here. How will the end of humanitarian aid hurt the Taliban, when the aid was going to people that the Taliban is basically trying to exterminate?
As an aside…Hastert sucks. I’m from his district (14th Illinois), and I can’t believe that this asshole represents me. My friend, who was a senior in high school at the time and working for the local paper, was able to stump him on a question. He voted “yes” on the anti-flag burning amendment. Not that I advocate burning flags, it’s just a matter of freedom of expression.
Hastert the Bastard. ::snickers:: Fucking moron.
And, now that my feverish head has died, I will go…
erm no ITR much of the aid was going to areas controlled by the Taliban, to just send aid to the other areas would invite accusations of assisting their enemies.
That’s how they were able to arrest aid workers to put them on trial, and have you need seen the reports of the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on female aid workers ?
All very well to respect cultures and traditions but when your lifeline depends on goodwill it does not pay to be too picky.
