Dennis Miller: Red Skelton & Ann Coulter’s Love Child?

I really used to like Dennis Miller. Even thought he was kinda hot, in a weedy, intellectual way. Then he did those phone commercials, and I knew he had been taken over by the Pod People. Now this, on Snopes. I thought better of Dennis than “ . . . why don’t we just change the phrase to ‘One nation under a crushing blanket of overly sensitive political correctness?’” and “ . . . “it’s good to know that all children are now guaranteed the right to come into their classroom in the morning and burn the flag, as long as they don’t salute it.”

Oh, bite me, Dennis. Jon Stewart is My Funny Cute Man now. Yes, I realise that comics have to go to headlines to get their material—but that is only acceptable when theirviews coincide with mine.

Dennis has certainly become more conservative, less original and decidedly less humourous as he gets older. And Jon is very attractive.

I actually think that’s kinda funny.

But you’re right. Jon Stewart is the cutest. I’d do him.

It isn’t just that he disagrees with you Eve, it’s that he’s wrong.

Um, Dennis, no one is required to be sworn into office on a Bible. You don’t even have to swear to tell the truth in court, you can affirm. This stuff really pisses me off.

And maybe the judges would prefer that their currency not read “In God We Trust.” I’m not an atheist, but I don’t like it, either.

And Eve, Jon Stewart is much funnier and way cuter than Dennis Miller.

…why?

Free your mind, and all that rubbish. I’m fairly right-leaning, but I still find Bill Hicks hilarious; the voicing of an opposing ideology is only a threat if you’re waffling in the first place.

That being said, Dennis’ lack of funneh has more to do with his tired schtick than his politics, IMHO. Pity – he was my fave, too. :frowning:

Sounds like Dennis Miller can’t tell the difference between political correctness and just plain correctness.

I have to agree with you, apotheosis. I rarely agree with a word that Dennis Miller says, but I still think his shows is one of the funniest on TV. He and Dana Carvey the other night was one of the most entertaining things I have seen in a long time.

I will be sad when his show goes off the air.

It’s stuff like this that has turned me off from watching Dennis Miller Live; the dude’s still funny, but in some areas seems to have self-imposed blind spots, like with the idea that even people you despise still have civil rights.

I remember once he said, “If the laws in this country were Singaporized, it probably wouldn’t affect me, because I’m pretty law-abiding.” Well, Dennis, the problem is that if we had laws like Singapore, your fucking show would be illegal.

Also, he’s one of those apparently intelligent people who see no value at all to space exploration. I guess that’s an arguable issue, but it irritates me. I guess it’s a basic difference in outlook.

Thanks Eve. Now I have this image in my mind of Red Skelton acheiving orgasm with that Clem Kadiddlehopper look on his face.

invoking synaptic scorched-earth policy. The Mind’s Eye Must Be Blinded, for the sake of my faltering sanity.

Wanna borrow my icepick? I’ll be done with it in a second…

Anne Coulter…Red Skelton…Unclean! THWUNK!

I, on the other hand, hated their little masturbatory mutual-appreciation love-fest. Like Miller, Dana Carvey has gotten stale and they never realized they need to update their material. You can only ride “I’m outta here” and “The Church Lady” so long.

Dennis Miller used to be pretty funny. In one of his books, he said something like, “folks, realize that all religions think their religion is the true religion-thus, none of them can be the one true religion” or something along those lines.

Weird.

Sad, sad sad.

Dennis Miller is one of my favorite comics, but I haven’t been watching his shows because I’d be online then. I certainly do not agree with everything he says, but I always will like him. Hehehe…

I myself tend to just wave off anything I may not agree with and simply laugh if they’re funny and don’t if they’re not.

Course I obviously prefer leftist comedians myself, but Dennis Miller was never a leftist. He was always a centrist, pretty much. But, I’m surprised that he’d go from “If a person wants to chew blotter, more power to him” to “Singaporan laws wouldn’t affect me because I’m a law abiding citizen”. That’s disappointing. :frowning:

I don’t see what the big deal is. His view doesn’t strike me as particularly conservative. I figure he’s just trying to say that there are a lot more important church and state issues facing the U.S. than whether or not people say “under God” when they recite the Pledge. And he’s kind of right, I think.

He also puts down the father who put his kid at the center of the debate. He’s right about that one too.

I used to enjoy Miller’s humor, but stuff like this shows he is losing his edge. Or maybe he’s softening his material and becoming more conservative as a way of getting ready for the new “family friendly” Vegas.

The SNL comedians of his generation are hitting that age. The old warhorses of Vegas have to die out some time. Who better to take their place than SNL alumni with lots of familiar bits and stagnant careers.

Miller admits his movie career is a joke, he’s certainly not enough of an actor to go the cheesy TV sitcom route (leave that to Jim Belushi), and the NFL gig was a stunt that lost its novelty value. Look at Carvey, Dan Ackroyd, and Kevin Nealon. Shitty movies, failed sitcoms or basic cable fodder.

Phone card commercials and Vegas shows, Denny, that’s your future. You’re going to be duking it out for gigs with Carrot Top, Don Rickles, and David Brenner. Enjoy it, cha-cha.

FTR, Dennis Miller seems more like the love child of Jack Paar and Ann Coulter to me.

Just because no one is required to be sworn in on the Bible doesn’t mean that everyone doesn’t. I think he’s saying to the Judges: ‘Hey, you swore yourselves in on the Bible[a fair guess], why don’t you undo it now?’

Anyway, I liked it… Partly for the reason it’s the first person I’ve seen agreeing with me on the issue…

But that’s just it – they weren’t required to swear on a Bible. If they chose to do so, that’s different. But it’s not a similar issue because the Bible isn’t an official part of swearing in a judge (or a president).

As for “In God We Trust” being on the money, it shouldn’t be there either, but that in no invalidates U.S. currency.

It just stands you reason. Take away your faith in space exploration, and you have to support public religion, because most of us can agree that we’re not getting off of this mudball without one or the other.
