When he was on the Daily Show recently he was talking about his support of Bush and said something like “I’m on America’s side this time”, like not supporting Bush is being against America. I found that pretty foul, myself.
I think when he was a wild guy liberal, he used to use gratuitous profanity to sound hip, but now that he a Bushite, he thinks profanity is beneath him.
Dennis Miller is still funny - it’s just that he can’t pierce the partisan shield some of you erect when it comes to conservatives. Why is that? I find Al Franken funny, and he’s over on the left. I sometimes find George Carlin and Robin Williams funny, and they also approach their humor from the left. I can let my politics go and enjoy a well-crafted joke or a funny line.
But liberals can’t seem to do that. I don’t get it. Dennis Miller went from being uproariously funny to unfunny just because he changed sides? Not likely. He had Jon Stewart in stitches the other night. His routine was very funny.
“Have you noticed how fat people are getting now? I was at Wal-Mart the other day… You’ve got to be 300 pounds now just to trip the automatic door at Wal-Mart. The regular people have to use a mini-tramp and jump on the door opener.”
Oh, gee, thank you for telling me what and how I think.
Why do you have to turn this into a political thing, and why do you try to lump every liberal on the planet into one big group in regards to something like what they find funny? Do you not see how totally off-the-wall and off-base that is with regards to, you know, reality?
Sorry, but he’s not funny to me, regardless of his politics. He wasn’t funny to me back when I had no idea what his politics even were. His jokes are the most formulaic things on the planet–which is why the Routine-o-tron was so funny, because it could come up with totally believable Dennis Miller jokes using a formula. I’m not talking about political stuff, either, I’m talking about everything all the way back to “Weekend Update”. And his delivery style sucks ass. The joke you just quoted about Walmart… were you meaning that as an example of something funny? Because it’s… not? It’s just stupid.
Yeah, Sam, I’m just so blinded by partisanship that I can’t get the humor. I could probably still quote you the Off White album from start to finish. There’s nothing partisan about “When I’m shoulder rolling at 800 miles an hour, lightly is just not in my vocabulary.” I still think of the chipgut bit almost every time I go to the vending machine. He’s a fellow Pittsburgher. There isn’t anyone who wants to be a bigger fan of his. It’s foolish and offensive that you might suggest I just don’t appreciate him because he’s conservative.
Jeez, maybe it had something to do with the several responses above mine, calling him a ‘Bushite’ and saying that he’s now offensive. But yeah, we could do without injecting politics into the thread. My bad.
Btw, I loved the oxygen mask gag. “Tug lightly” indeed.
Yeah, because several people on the SDMB speak for “liberals” as a group.
Well, what do you expect? This place is more liberal than an Isle of Lesbos brassiere catch factory.
And can you imaging being marooned on the Isle of Lesbos?
“That’s not funny!”
