A couple of weeks ago, as I got out of the shower, I noticed a dent in my right upper thigh and I realized that I had been leaning against my bathroom counter while applying make up and plucking my eyebrows. Well I did not give it much thought because I assumed it would go away rather quickly.
It did not.
I noticed it again a few days later and it has not gone away. It perfectly fits the indentation of the counter. I have only lived in this place since November and I dont spend THAT much time leaning on the counter?
I showed it to my sis and she was pretty shocked at how noticeable it is. I guess I am going to go see my doc this week but I am n ot sure how to explain this with out sounding like a nut.
It does not hurt at all but it is not something that I really enjoy looking at. Have you guys ever had anything like this?
I got a dent in my leg from stumbling against the steps of a bus once, and it didn’t go away for about a week, if it helps! Though it was my shin, and it realllly hurt.
Thanks Viridiana, I am going to put a towel on the edge of my counter and try to make an effort not to lean on it for a week or so and see if it will return to pre-dent conditions
As soon as I read the title of your thread I started to laugh, because I had the exact same thing happen to me.
Same thigh, same spot (or roughly, I would assume, as I don’t know how tall you are) and for the same reason. Leaning against the counter to apply makeup.
I don’t remember how long it took for me to develop this dent, but it was present until I moved into an apartment that had just a sink, and no bathroom counter.
Four months ago I moved into another apartment with the same type of bathroom counter that created The Original Dent. And I have made herculean efforts NOT to lean on it. So far, no dent.
Okay, I am laughing and slightly relieved that I am not the only dented girl that I know!
I now notice every time I lean over on the counter! I have braces on my teeth (they are coming off in 4 weeks!!!) and I realize that I lean over to floss and let me tell you…that takes a few minutes when you are weaving in and out of wires to get to your gums.
How long, Audrey Levins, after you you moved did your dent fade? I look like someone kung fu chopped me quite effectively in the thigh and it would be great if it would be gone by swimsuit season?
You should *still *go see a doctor, by the way. Having a persistent dent is sometimes just “one of those things”, but sometimes it’s a sign of serious issues, anything from hyperthyroidism to imminent kidney failure. Obviously, we can’t diagnose you over the internet! Because some of the things “dents” can point to are very serious, but also very treatable, it’s best to be checked out sooner rather than later.
Read edema, specifically “pitting edema” for more information.
I have had a similar sort of experience and so has at least one person I know, because of sitting in a particular way to play Javanese musical instruments. Both of us were spending a lot of time sitting in a particular position (at least 5 hours/week, perhaps more). Both of us were in our early 40s at the time.
We both found that it took a very long time for the dent to go away when we stopped sitting in the dent-making way (not sure about her, but weeks in my case).
For a while I also had a dent from the CPU that I liked to lean on with my leg while I worked. It also eventually went away when I forced myself to stop sitting in the position that caused it.
So you aren’t the only one. But I do wonder how much time you are spending putting on makeup? Spending hours working or playing musical instruments I can easily imagine. Make-up, though…you’re either much more dentable or a lot more interested in fixing yourself up than I am!
Thanks WhyNot I do intend to see a doc regardless. I am due for a tune up and over all check up anyway so I am going to try to make an appt next week.
And CairoCarol I can put my make up on in 5 min or less but I guess my peepers are not what they used to be because I find myself leaning into the mirror more for my extensive flossing and for poking at my skin. I like to squeeze my spots and clogged pores. I know that is TMI and kind of gross but it is true.
I caught myself twice yesterday almost lean on it. And it is not for long periods but apparently short times leaning several times a day equals dent in leg. Who knew.
It has already gotten less pronounced with my new found leaning restrictions in just a day. It is far from erased, but the minimal progress is encouraging at least.
I never noticed it unless I was wearing a very specific slim-fit skirt made of a very thin fabric. It made a kind of odd-looking “saddle bag” on one side, which would make me swear to stop leaning on that leg. And then I’d forget and the lean would go on.
As far as I can recall it was gone within a few weeks. Possibly sooner. I don’t wear that skirt very often and usually that was the only time I noticed it. You should be more than fine by swimsuit season!
