Okay, I’ve got a hole in my tooth. First instinct is that it’s a cavity (My first!), but then again, it doesn’t hurt, it’s not sensitive to heat or cold, and, well, I’ve never had any cavities before. It FEELS like a cracked tooth, due to the sharp edges, but unless a whole chunk of enamel came off exposing the dentin, it doesn’t quite look like it.
Now, I’m presently in the UK, and it’s quite likely that I’ll have to do this privately, which WILL cost a bomb. I’m hoping that this can be delayed until I go home in about 3 week’s time, but if I have to spend the money, I will (I probably will, anyway).

Any dentists here, or perhaps someone who has had a similar situation?
Where is the tooth? Can you see it at all?
It’s very possible, from my experience, to lose a piece of enamel and not have it hurt or be sensitive to heat/cold. This does not however mean that you do not have a serious situation. Unless you have a larger crack which precipitated it, it is likely you could wait until you got home, provided the crack/hole did not lead to an infection. Given the state of dentistry in the UK, as reported to me anecdotally, and given that I’ve been through what is likely the same situations before, my non-medical opinion is that you could likely wait 3 weeks, provided you were careful to clean and brush the area and keep it clean. You should also phone your regular dentist back in the US to ask them, and it could easily be worth the call.
