Derek and the Dominos Album

I have listened to “Layla” by Derek and the Dominos - Eric Clapton, Duane Allman and friends many times, but have never been able to figure out who played what guitars on the album. I have heard that Clapton played most of the leads while Allman added slide work and fills. But having listened to many of the Allman Brothers CD’s I am not convinced that Allman just “laid back” while Clapton did most of the work. Can anyone help me on this one or at least point me to some research on it?

Thanks,

Buu

I like Clapton. That’s my only qualification.

My Rolling Stone Album Guide has nothing definitive about the guitar work on the album other than to repeat what you said in your OP.

They do suggest that you get The Layla Sessions, which contains an hour’s worth of Clapton-Allman jams. In toto, it is two-and-a-quarter hours of outakes and jams. It might help you and give you ideas.

There’s a good discussion at this Clapton site.
