I love Eric Clapton. Yet, every recording I’ve ever bought of Derek and the Dominos Layla sounds terrible. Do any of the newer “remastered” versions sound better? I bought my current cd back in the late 1980s.
The album has been remastered multiple times. Wikipedia mentions several of them, and this list at AllMusic.com is even longer. I couldn’t distinguish one of them from another just based on a list, but it does sound like they’ve dealt with the issue you’re talking about. I remember my dad saying they’d toned down the slide guitar too much in one of the earlier '90s versions.
