There is a weekly column in the Wall Street Journal in the Friday taste section called de gustibus. It is primarily observational in nature, but wanders into politics, science, society, etc. What is the derivation and meaning of the column title?
There’s an old Latin proverb that goes, “De gustibus non est disputandum,” which literally means “Tastes are not to be argued about.” Or, more loosely, “there’s no accounting for different tastes.”
