I searched for a thread on this and didn’t seem to come up with one. If I somehow over looked it, forgive me
So, what does everyone think about our first installment after a three week hiatus?
I love the sweetness of Susan and Mike’s story-seems almost too good to be true, though.
Bree, Bree, Bree. Oh my. I love when she said, “Don’t mistake my anal retentiveness…” At least she recognizes it, right?
As far as Gabby goes, I don’t quite get why she doesn’t go get REAL modeling work. Was a reason ever given for why she stopped being a model?
And as far as Lynette-you have got to respect her husband for being honest and getting rid of the nanny. I see some marital troubles on the horizon for them.
.
My take on Gabby going back to modeling is that (from what I’ve heard) modeling is hard work, and she’s out of practice for work. Nice that the passport wasn’t completely burned up.
I was kinda surprised about the nanny, and Lynnette’s husband’s reaction. I was thinking it was unrealistic – no guy is going to risk his marriage for a nice set of boobies. Then I thought some more. Okay.
That little bit of jewelry planted in Mike’s house isn’t going to be nearly enough to make him a suspect in Mrs. Huber’s murder, is it?
Who played Mrs. Huber’s sister? I’ve seen her before, it seems like she played somebody’s agent, but I can’t remember where.
I like that Mike has Edie’s number, from the look on his face when she was flirting with Susan’s ex.
Bree’s son – I was hoping Bree’s honesty and “doing the right thing” with Rex would light a bulb in his head about his car accident. Apparently not. It was good writing in that it showed how irrational and unreasonable teenagers can be.
Re: Susan - I loved her being able to get back at the ex. Not the karaoke thing but the fact that he wanted her back and she realized that she didn’t want him. Good for her.
Re: Bree - Love the anal-retentiveness line. One of the best so far. Liked the bonding moment with her son but I agree, I hope he eventually does the right thing and isn’t a little psycho in the making. I’m thinking it may have to be something big that gets him to fess up, like maybe his mother becomes the suspect in the hit and run and she takes the blame for him and he finally realizes he loves his mom and she’s not so bad.
Re: Gabby - I know some of you really like her but she gets more and more on my nerves. She burns Carlos’ passport to punish him for his “betrayal”, WTF? She betrayed him over and over by screwing the lawnboy AND committed statutory rape, why is Carlos’ crime worse?
In regards to her modeling, she’s too short to be a “supermodel”. She may have only been a big thing at one point because she was unique but like many fads her time has passed and I think she knows it.
Re: Lynette - She seems a lot more understanding about the whole thing than most people would have been, but props to the husband for admitting he had a problem.
As for the nanny, what kind of idiot runs around naked in the home of her employer where she cares for small kids? What if one of the boys had been out of bed to go to the bathroom or get a glass of water?
Re: Ms Huber and her sister - Loved the family resemblance line. I actually felt sorry for Edie for a few seconds there, Mrs. Huber may have been a waste of flesh but she was Edie’s only friend.
I see Mike finding the jewelry, being smart, not touching it, and maybe asking around to see whose it is (or just calling the police). (Mary Alice’s husband wasn’t wearing gloves when he took off Ms Huber’s jewelry, was he?)
Now, Susan, being Susan, will mess up somehow and find and fiddle with the jewelry - I hope she doesn’t, but things happen around Susan and she does looney things.
I didn’t think the talk between Bwee and her son fit - he’s so mad at his mom, and all angsty, then finding out about his father completely changed his tune. I was almost expecting a “Well, look at you, how could he not cheat?” type of attitude.
Maybe there’s a human in the kid after all.
I’m starting to lose patience with the inconsistencies from show to show, and the irrational behavior of the characters. Just 3 episodes ago, the son was a remorseless monster (remember that he ran over Mama Solis? How soon we forget) smoking pot in his room and closing the door in Bree’s face.
And they dump the nanny because hubby is staring at her cleavage? C’mon…and why is she living in, anyway? How many bedrooms does this house have?
For some reason, either my ABC affiliate didn’t show Desperate Housewives last night OR my “Record all new first run episodes” expired… in any case, I missed it. Does anyone TiVo it who’d be willing to throw it on a tape and send it to me? I will pay for the tape and the shipping. E-mail me if you can do me this huge favor. Thanks.
Why wouldn’t it be? And even if Mike doesn’t end up the prime suspect, he serves as enough of a distraction that Mister Mary Alice gains time perhaps to skedaddle or perhaps to set up someone else.
In close up he was, but in long shot it looked like he wasn’t.
I’m confused. A TV guide article weeks back strongly hinted that Mrs. Huber wasn’t really leaving the show(or maybe they meant the actress), despite apparently being murdered. If she’s the stiff they found, are they going to have a ghost on the show or an evil twin?
There was a lot to like (as usual). I also loved the “Anal retentive” line.
I also liked the introduction of the sister. I had heard that Mrs. Huber’s sister would show up and I figured it would be played by the same actress. The writers knew that soap opera convention, and had the wonderful dialog between her and Edie about how she doesn’t resemble her sister.
Wile E - I know she’s short, but that’s why I didn’t get that the make her out to be a past super model- she’s the shortest one on the show!
I def. have to say Bree’s son gives me the creeps. I know us youngins (I’m 19) are supposed to be volitile and tempermental and stuff, but he really just turns it on and off, doesn’t he?
Achren I COMPLETELY agree about Susan. She ALWAYS messes things up somehow. In fact, I was waiting for her to get back with her ex this whole last episode; I was quite suprised (probably why I was so pleased) by the out come.
jsc1953 The inconsistancies are def. starting to stand out more. How many kids Lynette have? 4? 5? I don’t even remember. They have room for all those kids AND a live-in? C’mon.
I’m really sick of Lynette. Her husband needs to have her committed to some sort of treatment facility. She can’t handle her kids. Ok, so she sucks as a mother. Then she gets addicted to drugs. Way to go girl! Then she absolutely must have the best nanny around, and is willing to screw over the neighbors to get her. Oh, but she’s still not done. She can’t handle that the nanny can take care of her kids better than she can, so she has to install cameras to get some dirt on her. No dirt to be found. So she now has to deliberately sabotage the nanny, and then sit there at night watching it as entertainment. How messed up is that? Yet she’s still not done. Oh no, now the nanny has - oh my gosh! Breasts! My husband saw a naked woman and got horny. Oh, the horror! Now we have to fire the nanny and find an ugly one. Because, you know, my husband might notice she has breasts and want to have sex with me.
She needs serious help. Everything is about her, and her paranoid obsessions and inadequacies. She’ll never be happy, and never even be partly satisfied unless she’s constantly messing up the lives of everyone around her. Bleh.
lev, I agree about Lynette. She practically stalks the nanny and, after many refusals, finally gets her to leave her current job and move in with them. The nanny is wonderful with Lynette’s three brats.
So they find an honest, hard working, affectionate nanny and they reward her by FIRING her because the husband, who was never around in eps. 1-8, thinks she has nice boobs?
As far as Gabrielle being too short to model, isn’t the actress a former model? I thought I remembered reading this was her first acting gig after modeling.
Eva Longoria is only 5’3 and there is no way she was a professionally sucessful model. For a female to model, they generally need to be at the very least 5’8.
If she was a runway model at 5’3, I think I may be considering a new career!
I would cut her a little slack. Her paranoid obsessions are no worse than the rest. Whose lives is Lynette messing up outside her own family? She is not actively trying to ruin her friends’ lives – she just wants her own life to look like theirs do. AFAIAC, there is nothing wrong with that. Everybody wants to keep up with the Joneses. Lynette’s kids are total spazzes, but dollars to doughnuts they are NOT going to grow up without souls or consciences, unlike the children of some Wisteria Lane residents I could mention. She’s nosy, but she isn’t really a meddler like Mrs. Huber (was). All Lynette wants is a little peace and quiet. Not entirely like my own mother.
What I don’t like about Lynette is that awful choker, but bad taste is not really a crime. (Case in point: the heretofore unindicted Edie Britt.) She is doing the best she can with the brats she has. Otherwise, she is not much different than a lot of actual real-life housewives I know. She’s, you know, kind of desperate.
