That’s exactly one of the things I like about this show. The main characters have reasonably standard human intelligence and Crook doesn’t sink into the very sitcommy traits of a Gareth.
Be reassured. Mackenzie Crook has not lost his touch. Brilliant episode.
Yep, S3E01 was shown last night.
Somewhat low key start, but very much in the same vein as before. Very sweet sequence featuring magpies and music by The Unthanks.
I always forget how sad the show can be. They just missed in series one. They keep just missing now. Andy’s taken a job where his bosses don’t care about archeology or actually preserving the past if it means that there’s a delay in construction. And there’s the looming problem of the solar array. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
My guess is they discover the pot of gold in time and buy the field
We just started tonight. I was a little perplexed by the 2-star rating, but ratings are often suspect. The show resonates on a very human level. A couple of every day shlubs tilting at windmills, hoping to find buried treasure. No guns, no car chases, no stupid sitcom memes. I find it charming.
The series is funny and heartwarming in a way you rarely see these days. One of my favourites.
Maybe not the field, but hopefully the house.
I thought for sure the coins were going to rain down on their heads…or at least just one coin!
They have some hoops to jump through.
An interesting older (than the linked law) case where the finder…got…nothing!
I think you’re right. Mackensie Crook has said there won’t be anymore series so one more epi to go and they all have to live happily ever after.
Fwiw, I think this third series has got stronger as it’s gone along.
Toni and Andy both clearly came up with the idea of Kate using the boat immediately.
What was the point of playing dumb until the wheels of Lance’s brain eventually reach that idea himself?
It might foreshadow the ending or it might just be that Lance is gifted in some areas of life and less so in others; he can sense the magpies and gold but he’s a bit OCD and couldn’t detect a hint if his TR7 depended on it.
And so S3 concluded on a golden summer day when the real treasure was revealed to each of them - the most valuable thing each of us have is each other; our relationships. Gold itself is incidental. Literally
Thank you to Mackenzie Crook for this beautiful work. All You Need is Love.
Ya, I cried. I’m sure going to miss this show.
Even Simon & Garfunkel get in on the groovy feeling in the end!
But it’s still a mistake to do a gold dance if you haven’t found any.
Great show! I just finished watching all the way through. I love quirky people and happy endings.
US Dopers - the third season is hitting Acorn starting Jan. 15. (According to the Times, today, anyhow.) If they treat it like Murdoch, they’ll release the shows a week at a time.
Can’t wait.
