I think it’s time. March sounds good, eh? I think we should get the ball rollin’.
All are welcome, even you lurkers who joined in 1998 and have 4 posts. And guests as well. And even those Dopers that who just happen to be in-town or can make a decent drive for the reward of having some whacky fun.
A restaurant will probably be in order again, and keep it either D side or AA side, I guess. But, let’s just see what the general mood is this time before setting a place/date.
Present your ideal DopeFest, peeps… and let’s come to a conclusion!
I’m in. My birthday is on March… well, take a guess! It’s in the middle of the week, though, so it won’t likely interfere with any Dope plans.
I don’t know the Detroit area well, but Ann Arbor does have some good restaurants. Depending on how many people are in, we might do *Conor O’Neil’s *… excellent little Irish pub, surprisingly affordable, with all the corned beef and cabbage you might desire… if you in fact desire corned beef and cabbage.
Cool, I just had my B-day yesterday, so we can make this a celebration of coming into existence. Always a something to raise a glass to.
I’m down for whatever, easy to please (so long as it’s not sushi / seafood)… Also, last time we had it closer to the D, so maybe AA is the way to go this time?
Everyone bring a gift for Olives! The lamer/geekier the better
sobs quietly to herself from Georgia The Galway mussels in sherry and cream are awesome. I spent a goodly portion of my 31st birthday there, both lunch and then hours of drinking ciders later, dinner.
Happy Birthdays to you’s,
Happy Birthdays to you’s,
Happy Birthdaaaaaaaaaaaaays dear olives and cmyk
Happy Birthdays to you’s!
Speaking of birthdays…I happen to have some buy1get1game passes left from my son’s birthday party at Zap Zone. Laser tag place in Canton, right off 275 and Ford road. It’s fun, you run around in the dark and shoot each other.
Easy to get to A2 from there, and if we wind up somewhere that doesn’t mind, I’ll even volunteer my superior birthday cake making skillz for the celebration.
I only get back to MI for big deal events that I’d be in serious trouble for missing - graduations, weddings and the like. I was hoping to get up there sometime this year to bring the hubby and show him The Henry Ford, etc, but…$$$ is tight. Maybe next year. Have a cider for me, and say Hey! to my favorite Oirish waiter, Barry. They have a heck of a trivia night too, you know.
Watchoo talkin’ bout, ‘other side’?? Get on the Greyhound bus or Amtrak train and go all of 1 hour East. The bus lets you off in Downtown A2 and you’ll only walk up Main toward William about 3 blocks to Conor’s. Or take the train and walk about a mile up Main from Depot.
Now, getting to the bus/train station in Kalamazoo shouldn’t be much of a trial, it’s not like K-College is up on Westnedge or something. Just head towards the old insane asylum near 94, it’s hard to miss.
Spring break I have to go out to Cali (interviews, I plan on moving there at the end of summer vacation) and I’m booked until the end of this quarter, pretty much. Skipping classes/studying on weekend screws me over BAD here, one of the drawbacks about this damn college. I missed this past Friday to go with my housemate to Detroit and when I came back it felt like I had been out of the loop for a week…At least classwise, where missing a day in computer programming and chemistry can mess ya up something good.
I’m not blaming you guys or anything. It’s my fault that I didn’t catch you all over Christmas break. I think I was still a little wary then being a newbie and all.
