Deuce Bigalow: now with the same joke twice!

Granted I haven’t seen the second film yet. However, theres something puzzling to me. In the first movie one of the few mildly amusing sequences involved Deuce turning a trick with an extremely enormous woman. I clearly remember a scene where he’s massaging her giant feet. Now I’m seeing commercials for the sequal and I swear it looks like they’re doing the same joke. I don’t mean elaborating on the the original, but rather doing the exact same bit. Right down to his line: “Hi, I’m Deuce Big…gest woman I’ve ever seen!”. Followed by her picking him up like hes a rag doll and pulling him into the house. So heres my question to anyone whos seen both movies: am I correct here? Did they in fact do the same stupid bit, in the same stupid way in both stupid films? I know theres a school of thought that says “hey if something is working for us lets exploit it” - but seriously, that just seems downright lazy.

I haven’t seen either movie, but wasn’t the woman in the first movie just really, really fat? The one I’m seeing in the commercials for the new one looks really tall and hefty, but not obese.

It would be very lazy and stupid, if it’s true. But let’s consider the movie we’re talking about here.

There was a really fat woman in the first one, but there also was a really tall one. She ended up together with the real gigalo.

I’m curious… was there enough worthwhile content in the first movie to make any of you want to see the second one, thinking, “Oh, boy, a sequel!”?

Heh. I actually thought the first one was a kinda cute, kinda funny movie.

Previews for the second one look like they kept all the lame humor and removed any endearing qualities the first one had.

Home Alone 2 also cut-and-pasted a lot of sequences from the original. I guess the filmmakers thought the target audience of kids was so stupid they wouldn’t even remember the first film.

Yeah, it (the first one) was better than I expected it to be.

Which isn’t saying much, since I expected it to be very, very bad indeed.

Yeah, I saw it first by accident, but have seen it a few times since. I’ll be sure that accident isn’t repeated for the sequel.

The most useless sequel in history, I’m sure, is Major League 2. While the original showed a bunch of eccentric losers marshaling their oddball talents to win the big game, this movie showed a bunch of eccentric losers trying to become disciplined players, which fails miserably and prompts them to marshall their oddball talents to win the big game.

I’ve seen this commercial, and noticed that it was the same line that was in the film trailers back last week or whenever the movie came out in theaters. I wasn’t paying much attention though, and since it looked so similar to the last one I thought it was just an ad for the DVD.

A couple of possibilities occur to me:

(1) Maybe they’re trying to turn “Hi, I’m Deuce Big-GEST WOMAN I’VE EVER SEEN!” into his catchphrase, like “Hasta la vista, Baby” or “Gotcha, suckas!” Now, I do not exaggerate when I say this is the worst catchphrase I’ve ever heard, but this movie is clearly not aiming high.

(2) Maybe they’re counting on the target audience not to care that the same line was in the first movie. Seriously, if one is shelling out one’s dollars to go see Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, then cinematic originality is clearly not one’s sole criterion in choosing entertainment.

On further reflection, #1 seems more likely. If they not only used the exact same joke, but also put it in BOTH trailers, I think they must be trying to make a catchphrase out of it.

Plus, it seemed to work for Austin Powers 2.
