I have heard good things about this show, anyone seen it yet? It is evidently in German with subtitles in English.
I saw the ads, but didn’t know if it had premiered yet. What network is it on?
the subtitles are a little small and there were times where because of the color of the background one couldn’t read them.
Other than that I really liked the show, but I’m a sucker for spy stories and intrigue of a similar nature.
It’s on Sundance, which I don’t have, and it looks like it’ll show up on Hulu eventually, but for now they only have clips (which redirect to Sundance’s site). Thanks for alerting me AK84; this looks really good.
I’m enjoying it. I had German class in high school but I can barely catch any words, so I’m hoping this helps me remember some of the language. I like seeing how people in other places function in their home settings, which was one of the reasons I liked Broadchurch.
It’s similar to The Americans as far as a cold-war spy story, but in a different realm. For me the best part was the first time the East German spy found himself in a western supermarket, looking at all of the produce and trying to comprehend how all this food became available.
I will have to wait for it On Demand or DVD, but my worry is that its basically an Americans clone.
This is at 79 on Metacritic, which was good enough to get me interested until I realized that I don’t get the Sundance Channel. Your reminder however made me go look it up on demand, and strangely enough, while I don’t get the channel, I can watch the episodes on demand! So, we’ll watch and get back to you. We do speak German, so this will be interesting.
I’ve see the first two and, and least on my reading, it doesn’t have the depth of The Americans not the intrigue of Broadchurch - it’s pretty much what you see on the screen.
I was happy enough to watch them both but, yeah, a little bit by the numbers. At least so far.

I watched the first couple of episodes last night and while I enjoyed it, it is surprisingly slight. It also approaches farce on several occasions and there are really implausible plot points that already take me out of the story. The soundtrack is a bit overdone too. I love '80s pop music but I don’t need to hear so much of it in a show. Having said all that I think I will continue watching it. It is beautifully shot.
It’s out on DVD; I just watched the first 3 episodes. Very good so far.
The good news is that there’s going to be a 2nd season, set in 1986. The bad news is that we’ll have to wait until 2018.
