False advertising?
With it, an abode of bliss.
Yeah, a corset tease always puts me in the mind of a meat-bridge, too.

It ain’t cat food. My cats won’t touch the stuff.
You don’t? Well, since I happen to have a can in my pantry, I’ll tell you anyway.
Mechanically separated chicken, partially defatted cooked pork fatty tissue, beef tripe, partially defatted cooked beef fatty tissue, vinegar, salt, spices, sugar, natural flavors, sodium erythorbate, sodium nitrite.
Doesn’t that sound tasty?
As for deviled things, I prefer the Deviled Roast Beef spread.
Mmmmm, beef tripe…
Soylent Ham is people!
(Actually, I like UDH on occasion.)
Yeah, I think dog food is better quality than “Libby’s Potted Meat Food Product.” Thank you for reminding me of a painful experience.
I was visiting my family, and we went to the beach one lovely summer day. Before we left, my mom was sitting at the table, counting out cans of “Libby’s Potted Meat Food Product.” I jokingingly said, “What’s that, lunch?” I was so not expecting her to say “Yes.” It took me a few seconds to realize that yes, she was serious, and we were having this–“meat”–for lunch. So we went to the beach, had a very nice time, and then we sat down at a picnic table for lunch. A loaf of bread, a box of Triscuits, about 6 cans of “Potted Meat Food Product,” and a can of pork and beans. I think we also had a couple of cans of Vienna Sausages.
As we all know, “Potted Meat Food Product” just looks digusting. I really couldn’t eat it after I read the label. That “partially defatted beef fatty tissue” and “partially defatted pork fatty tissue” just put me off. Ewwwwwwww!!! Fatty tissue??!! What the heck is that? It just doesn’t sound like something anyone should eat, ever, under any circumstances. So I had a very sparse lunch. We went to the mall after that, and I made a beeline for the food court, got some relatively healthy french fries.
My mom never was very good at meal planning.
ME
I tried Potted Meat Product once.
Once.
I’m under the impression that it’s like pureed Vienna sausages. Now, I can stomach tinned Vienna sausages; but one taste of the Potted meat Product, and it was into the bin with that!
That “Underwood history” link is great. I especially like this part:
If you ever eat dinner at my house and the best thing you can say about my cooking is that it was “unique”, you’re washing all the dishes.
Mechanically separated chicken is made by forcing chicken bones with bits of meat attached through a sieve at very high pressures. The bones go through the sieve and the “meat” stays behind. There’s a picture of the resulting slurry in the above link.
Partially defatted cooked [beef, pork] fatty tissue: fatty tissue that’s been rendered slightly, like pork cracklins.
Given these two ingredients, I’m suspicious of what they include under “spices” and “natural flavors”. Since they feel safe revealing the others, what’s in “spices”? :dubious:
