Devito? Hershey?

I am trying to locate a movie, that I think starred Danny DeVito and Barbara Hershey (and is not Tin Men.)

All I remember is that I saw an interview with Danny DeVito, and he was describing the Hershey character. The film is set in New York, and she was doing “whatever she needed to do” to survive. She was playing a woman, single, middle class, and probably sleeping with somebody to maintain her situation in the city. It may have been set in the past.

Any guesses? searches matching the two names only brought up Tin Men. That’s not it.

Sounds an awful lot like Living Out Loud, which stars Holly Hunter, not Barbara Hershey.

Thans, but that’s not it. The one I am talking about was not so romatic.

www.imdb.com, which is pretty thorough and includes TV movies and such, lists only Tin Men as a joint venture with Devito and Hershey.

Damn - Bryan Ekers beat me to it. . .

Anyway, as Bryan said, according to the Name Search function on imdb.com here, Tin Men is the only movie they’ve done together.

How long ago did you see the interview? Maybe you can narrow down the date and look at which of DeVito’s films fit the bill.

Good luck.

D’oh! I didn’t see this comment upon first reading - hope you can find the movie. Maybe DeVito was a producer or director?

Thanks you all.

I have tried IMDB before posting the question, covring DeVito on all possible functions. No avail.

I remember this came out in the mid to late 90’s, and possibly set in the 40’s in New York.

Thanks again.

Is the movie you’re thinking of The Public Eye ? It was set in the 1940’s and had Hershey in it. However, it’s star was Joe Pesci not Danny Devito. Still, if that’s what it was, I can understand the mix-up because both Pesci and Devito are middle-aged, short, Italian-American actors who frequently play volatile characters. I’m surprised no one has cast them as brothers in a movie yet.

Well, Tin Men was a period piece, set in the late 50’s or early 60’s (I’m sure of this because much is made of the new popularity of th Volkswagen Beetle in the film).

Are you sure you’re not thinking of Tin Men?

Thanks, NDP. That actually sounds right.

Sorry about the DeVito pointer–I gues Pesci is not in my conciousness.
