DEVO: Something For Everybody

Has anyone else had a chance to hear the new DEVO album Something For Everybody?

I never got the opportunity to hear Total DEVO or Smooth Noodle Maps, but Something For Everybody is so good that it sounds like the spiritual successor to New Traditionalists. IMHO, it’s better than Oh, No! It’s DEVO and beyond that, it’s just really fun to listen to while still containing that unique subversive edge. Plus, it’s always cool hearing Bob 1 get the occasional line as well.

So am I alone here?

I think it’s a blast of an album. It’s a summer party record for geeks.

I also saw them last week at the Forecastle Festival in Louisville and they killed.

I heard the song “What We Do” twice and it’s truly horrible. When they were having the Facebook blitz to have fans winnow 16 tracks down to 12, I listened and voted, and recall that some of the songs sounded pretty good. One thing that stood out to me is that some of the music stood up to their earlier days, but lyrically it seemed weak.

Of course, repeated listens could change any of this, I just don’t know if I’ll make the time though.

I’ve been listening to it for about a month now and really like it. Definately not for everbody if you were never into DEVO or are not not a fan of the 80s synth-pop/punk type stuff. To me it has the silliness of old Oingo Boingo albums along with contemporary synth sound of something like The Killers.
If it were on vinyl I’d say side one is the stronger half of the album with the exception of the final “March On”.

Exactly!

I actually quite like that track. Really recalls some of the old DEVO for me.

I really like “Later Is Now” as well.
