This was a tough call for me and believe it or not I had thought a lot about creating this thread and posting it. I was conflicted as to where he was coming from DCU, but on that particular day the thing to do was to post it and ask the question. Of course the title was inflammatory, but hey, just using some artisitic license for the Pit. In real life, I would ask a person this to their face, but the dynamic is different here as we all, or rather, should know. It’s true, I did accept his explanation and was really asking for clarification, but as we all know race is such a loaded issue here. I also knew that there would be those that would come in, pile-on and do the stuff they do, so what you’ve been reading from me for I’d say after the OP is just answers to stuff that’s been thrown my way. For the most part, I’m laughing at myself as I’m posting it, because on the one hand it so not me, but then again it is, go figure.
but Dewey your initial reaction was more of a ‘sheesh did you get that wrong’, than being offended, and I submit to you, that since you had to walk away and think about it, then the offense wasn’t as obvious as you now seem to claim it was/is.
and the bottom line to me is:
at this point, I believe you think him to be a jerk. no doubt he holds no warm fuzzy feelings for you, either. You’ll possibly eye all of his posts to you with skepticism, with a fine ear tuned to see offense, as he probably will yours. what effort that is.
and instead, you could both walk away from this thinking “gosh, sure am glad I don’t live near so and so”, maybe avoid their posts for a while, whatever. Isn’t life too short to get all hot and bothered about what someone you don’t care about thinks about you?
I make every effort to refrain from flying off the handle, unlike our esteemed friend EasyPhil. I try to make a habit of not going off half-cocked. Yeah, I took some time to think about EasyPhil’s accusation before I posted that I was offended by it. That should indicate that the comment was more offensive, not less, because even after reflection I came to the same conclusion: that this was a deeply offensive slander on my character.
And I don’t terribly much care what EasyPhil thinks of me. If he wants to think I’m a racist in the deep recesses of his addlebrained mind, fine. It’s when he makes unsubstantiated public charges of racism against me that I get “hot and bothered.” And rightfully so.
