See, there you go again. When Ben Hicks refers to “people like you,” he isn’t referring to black people. He’s referring to stupid people.

crap. the winkie went to Ben’s post, not DCH
Your problem Dewey Cheatem Undhow is that you over analyze and therefore you missed the obvious. It’s reallly about monkey and black being in the same sentence, as Eve so astutely pointed out.
Phil, may I buy you a sarcasm detector?
Anyone else getting a Martin Lawrence’s character in Boomerang vibe here?
I’ll go halfsies with PRR on that sarcasm detector. You don’t really think Eve was serious, do you?
Sure, just make sure you consult with competent professionals before you make your purchase.
Oh the irony!
Woooosh!
Hello Pot? This is the kettle…you’re black…
(Uh oh…was that racist?)
Yes, it was, and I’m using the “report this post to the moderator” feature, right now. Be afraid, be very afraid.
Look, I can see only two possibilities:
- You thought Eve was seriously showing an example of racism.
In which case, you are too stupid for words; or
- You realize Eve was not being serious and were trying to play along.
In which case you should consider that several posters, based on your other posts in this thread, consider that your reply indicated that you thought Eve was serious. See how that works? Your prior posts affect your credibility, even to the point where it’s unclear when you are joking and when you aren’t. That alone is a pretty good reason to refrain from starting threads premised on baseless accusations.
If you won’t refrain from doing so for the moral reasons that have been pointed out already, you might want to consider doing so out of your own self-interest, in order to preserve what little credibility you have left.
Be careful, lest you imply EasyPhil was over-analyzing something – the truer comment would be that he did no analysis at all.
Uh huh…
Come get me Mods…I was bad…
True DCU…I bow to your wisdom…
Dear Easy Phil,

I do not like black people named sam
I do not like black people eating jam
I do not like black people using spoons
I do not like black people yodeling at the moon

JOKE!
Dewey - for what it’s worth (and I’m not assuming it’ll be worth much to you), I believed that Phils quoting Eve was a sarcasitc reference. take that as you will.
my take (and I know you’re breathless w/anticipation) on this whole train wreck:
It was poorly conceived on Phils’ part, his original sniping of you in the original thread that spawned this mess was a childish gig (I generally lower my opinion of folks if they use the old “insult the posters screen name” gig, it’s so grade school, ya know?), but I saw him asking vs. accusing in his OP (I know it can be taken either way, but that was my personal view of it). I thought you were doin’ just fine here and it seemed semi resolved until you stepped back into the thread and (seemed to have decided) with the ‘the more I think about it, the more insulted I am’ and it’s been a cluster fuck of epic proportions since then
(well, except for that whole ‘no nothing shit for brains moron’ comment that Ben made , and took my ribbing him on it rather well).
On the whole, I thought that EP jumped the gun by starting this thread, I thought it was clear that you were being dismissive vs. racist in your ‘boy’ comment, but he seemed to have accepted your explanation. At that point this could have died, and we’d all have gone off singing Kumbaya. But after you’d explained it, you then seemed to have decided to be offended at the accusation. and I wonder why. Yes, it’s shitty (especially here) to be called a racist, but-
if he was willing to accept you(and I believe he did), on the face of your posting “I didn’t mean it in a racist way”, then why can’t you accept his explanation that he didn’t mean this as an accusation but rather a question?
and at the end of it, I doubt seriously that either of you will offer to be godparent to the other’s next child, so what’s gonna change here?
Amen, wring.
I’m sorry, wring, but I beg to differ. To suggest that asking “are you a punk ass racist?” is anything less than a direct accusation of racism is inflict great harm on the English language. I can think of no situation where such a question could plausibly be deemed a mere request for information.
So no, I am not inclined to accept that he meant it as a mere question. I’m not willing to step through the looking glass on that. I am not willing to deny reality just to soothe ruffled feathers.
EasyPhil meant his question as an accusation. No other interpretation is plausible. His claim that it was “just a question” is an attempt to hide from his own words invented on the fly when he realized other posters would not accept his accusation.
And as for my being offended – yes, I am, and I continue to be. I normally have a pretty thick skin. Call me an asshole, a moron, an idiot; call me ugly or insincere or a fucknugget. These things do not bother me. But to call me a racist – well, consider the import of what that label carries! It suggests that my primary determinant of a person’s worth is the amount of melanin in their skin. It puts me in the same corner as Bull Conner and David Duke. It is, perhaps, the most vile label one can attach to a fellow human being.
It is not a label to bandy about lightly. Perhaps a more aggressive condemnation of those who are willing to throw that label out at the drop of a dime is precisely what is needed.
I realize you’re trying to play peacemaker here, and I commend that. But there are limits to my ability to compromise. Pretending that a vile accusation was not in fact a vile accusation is one of those limits.
