I’ve got a natural leather sportscoat (fairly lightweight) that’s been sitting in a crumpled pile in the corner. It’s pretty wrinkled and I’d like to dewrinkle it. How do I do it?
Can your average dry cleaner just press it like a normal sportscoat without ruining it? Could I leave it in the bathroom when I take a hot steamy shower? It’s moderately expensive, so I don’t want to screw it up.
Thanks!
I wouldn’t recommend hanging it in the bathroom during a shower. Depending on the leather treatment, steam could damage it.
Have you hung it up for a couple of days? 99% of the time, if you just hang it on a wooden hanger and leave it in the closet for a week, the wrinkles will relax out of it.
If that doesn’t work, don’t take it to the dry-cleaners. Take it to a specialty cleaners - one that does leather. (Look up leather cleaning in your local yellow pages.) They’ll charge a lot ($25-$100), but they shouldn’t ruin it.
Thanks for the idea. I just ended up wearing it as is, to a funeral no less. My relatives are surprised to see me in anything other than shorts and a t-shirt, so I can get away with it. It actually dewrinkled quite a bit just by wearing it. I think the body heat helped out. A couple more outings and actually hanging it in the closet rather than tossing it in the corner, and I think it’ll be good to go.
