If Gellar is real then I’m going to metaphorically throw this show off the roof of a tall building.
I was talking to a coworker the other day and said something along the lines of “You know Geller isn’t real, right?” and her eyes just about popped out of her head. That, to me, confirms what I said above. That most people, the ones that just watch an episode and don’t give it much thought until next Sunday, haven’t even considered that Geller isn’t real. After I explained to her some of the reasons why I/we think he isn’t she said “Oh…I guess that’s why they brought Brian back for this episode.”
For US, it would be a huge let down if Geller proves to be real since they’ve been building up to it the whole season. For most of the other viewers, I don’t think they’d notice it.
I think that when he’s revealed as having died a long time ago (maybe even at Travis’ hand) or even alive but not having anything to do with Travis, I think it’s going to be as much of a mindfuck for most of the viewers as Fight Club or Six Sense.
At this point his being real would be less a letdown and more a shock to me. And I had my own not-real theory before reading anyone else’s conjectures about it.
I was in the Gellar is real camp, but I’ve been convinced. I think he’s Travis’s dark passenger.
I don’t know if the “us” you’re referring to is your family or the SDMB. If it’s the latter, please don’t speak for me. I’m not sure if I think he’s real or not, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if he was real. So long as the story is well written I could get behind it going either way.
nudge Is someone going to start a thread for the most recent episode?
In episode 7 Dexter goes crazy doing alot of things out of the norm. Perhaps these frequent references to split personalities is that all these serial killers each season do not exist. In fact that each killer is just like Doakes, innocent and Dexter is just framing them. Maybe Dexter did the bath killing in the episode and that’s why there is a question that why would Jonah kill his sister this way. Each and every episode in some fashion has a split a darker side to Dexter. A work mate, a brother, girl friend perhaps Dexter has made all these personalities up. Each season I expect as the last so always on edge thinking he will be caught. With Deb getting therapy perhaps she will see Dexter for who he really is
