Dexter 12/18 This is The Way The World Ends

Holy Fuck!

Spoiler warning - though intentionally vague.

I suppose the ending is understandable. The point of each season is to maintain / attract Showtime subscribers. So each season ends with an attempt to guarantee your interest for the next season and maybe even to stir some controversy.

Predicted the ending after seeing that Dexter chose the Church to finish his business. Despite being aware of this I thought it was an interesting spin.

I have to admit that I did not see it coming. A lot of this season was predictable but I, at least, did not expect this.

Opening Scene - Deb talking to Therapist - yeah, I had a real fuckin breakthru - turns out all this time I was dating people EXACTLY like my brother!

I couldn’t have put it more eloquently myself.

Agreed.

I didn’t see it coming either. I figured Dex would kill him there and then call Deb and say that Travis showed up unexpectedly and he killed him in self defense…or he killed him because he figured that was the best thing to do, without police training he would have no way of restraining/detaining him and he doesn’t have a cell phone right now. I’d imagine he’d have the department’s blessing on that.

ETA: Come to think of it, with Travis still on the loose, I’m surprised they would send a forensics guy to the church with out a uniformed backup. And what exactly is a final forensic sweep other then a convenient way for Deb to put Dex in a known spot later on that night (again, he doesn’t have a cell phone so she has no way of finding him).

I missed something. How did Dexter not pass out from injecting himself?

Fairly sure he anticipated Travis’s request - or he didn’t really inject himself.

“Deb, this isn’t what it looks like”

As usual, the AV Club nailed it. Travis vs. Miami Metro was “a lengthy game of high-stakes Pictionary”.

Awesome ending–I figured this had to happen sooner or later. Deb has been through so much that it’s become a joke, but maybe the payoff is that she’s been toughened up enough to deal with this without having a total breakdown. But hopefully this will put an end to the incest angle. Ick.

Can’t wait till next season!

Wow…

Next season can’t come quickly enough.

I’m just trying to figure out what’s up with the creepy package the intern sent to Dexter that Travis picked up at his apartment. That was never explained and I suppose that will be a story line for next season.

Was that The Professor’s hand Dexter removed when he found him in the freezer?

I want to add that I thought the episode was terrific!

No - it was the ITK hand from the beginning of the season - with additional markings added by the intern.

Yeah, looks like they’re setting up Hacker Intern to be next season’s Big Bad…or a side killer, at least.

I didn’t see that ending coming, can’t wait for next season now. WOW.

I’ve enjoyed Deb more even as I’ve grown bored with Dexter and then they have to trot this sensationalist crap out in the last two episodes and basically fuck up her character, not cool Showtime, not cool at all.

There would have been plenty of angst and room for doubt about Deb’s decision without delving into the realm of incest. Hell, I was even okay with it when I thought that the therapist was just wrong or trying a wildly irresponsible technique.

I’m curious if they’re still going to go that route with Deb finding out about Dexter. Assuming Dexter explains what he’s been up to and how he got into the family business it’ll be clear why Dex spent so much time with Harry and why Deb was always left out. That may get rid of a lot of her feelings for him. It may bring about some new feelings, but I think I don’t think she would be ‘in love’ with him anymore as much as she might start seeing him as a father.
FTR, I have no idea how the books handle this situation.

Disagree… not at all inspired. Deb would have linked at least three uses of the F-bomb with a “balls” tossed in somewere.
