It’s a possibility. I haven’t had a weekend off in ages it seems, and a back of the envelope calculation indicates I may very well have the 4th-5th off. If I do, I will be present. I may not be able to confirm it until the 27th, though.
A tentative maybe; shifts/schedules are switching around at work, and I’m not entirely sure yet where I’m going to land.
Excellent, a counter to my SDMB withdrawal! (I’ve been too busy to even read the boards lately.) I’ll be there.
<runs off to check the mead inventory>
Babs (do you mind if I call you Babs?) I think we can call this a definite for Saturday, since rjk is my boyfriend, and I will have to pick him up on Friday night.
And we will probably be busy after that.
I’ll be bringing champagne. Any suggestions for an inexpensive brand that won’t get me laughed out of the restaurant?
Grace will be in attendance. I also talked to Aglarond and he is not on call that weekend so he said he can come too.
For those of you who wonder why I always post for Aglarond, he no longer as access to the SDMB from work. And the silly boy forgets to do it when he gets home so I always end up with posting duty.
Well, in this case, it is a ‘it pays to have friends’ deal. An instructor who teaches Indian style music was commenting in alt.callahans about remediating the tone deaf, that most people truly weren’t they had simply had bad experiences trying to learn. I offered up the fact that after 6 years in band, I knew I could hear a difference only at another note and a quarter OFF the proper one.
He calmly replied that he was almost positive my case was not as hopeless as I’d supposed, and he took up the challenge, got with a musician/filk singer friend of mine in Houston, and they are conspiring to teach me. He, with the anticipation of trying this ‘remote’ teaching. She, with the ‘ulterior’ motive of getting another filk singer to sing around with. Me, my motive is to see if I can really sing (which’d be durn tootin’ nice), and to spend time with my friend, because she is a very cool person all around.
The first lesson is the one that might conflict (or might not) with this party. But… given the effort these folks are putting in for me, I have to go and give it my best shot (gulp! )
I’ll let you know how the first lesson goes, when I get it done.
And if it doesn’t conflict, I’ll show to the party. I want to pick Balance’s brain about fermenting mead, and I can bring the bottle of red wine that scotth kindly gave me as my share of the alcholic refreshments.
Just spotted this one.
Not certain yet, but its likely I will show up.
Italian food and getting to bring my own wine… what a treat!
BTW, Ziactrice, the wine of which you speak should be a fine match. Being a chianti, you could say it was “made for” this event.
OK, scotth and S.O. scotth will be attending.
Monday morning bump
This is totally unrelated to the topic at hand, but hopefully the right people will find this here.
At the last gathering, I brought an internet film called “Tripping the Rift”.
Several people had an interest in finding it. If anyone forgot or is still looking, here is a link.
http://xtinct.home.dhs.org/incoming/tripping.zip
This is a zipped up mpeg file.
Warning, for people finding this that don’t know what they might be getting, this is a pretty racy, but very funny animated piece.
Other info and downloads available from www.trippingtherift.com
This saturday. w00t!
Why Ziactrice, I had no IDEA you were a chianti. On your mother’s side or your father’s side?
(Don’t take it personally, scotth. I am congenitally unable to see a dangling participle without pointing at it and snickering. I do it to everybody.)
Happy Birthday all!
I seriously doubt that I’ll be able to make it. I have two final exams on Saturday. Whom ever invented the “Saturday final” should be horrible tortured. So I’ll be in a coma that night, I imagine.
I hate to miss Scott’s wine, he has great taste in booze
Have a good time!
–==the sax man==–
Well, things have settled out at work, and I will unfortunately be unable to attend.
Zyada: Happy Birthday, and many more. I hate to miss this one, as it’s an Italian b’day. Give my regards to RJK, sorry I missed him.
I’m going to have to work Saturday.
So, no dice.
Enjoy!
Almost here!
I just want to remind people to bookmark the link to the DFW Adams family board: http://www.arborwood.com/awforums/show-toparea-1.php?fid=616&taid=1
This has all the info on the main page, so if something happens to the board, you’ll still be able to find us!
Zyada, why does your locator indicate you live in Fort Worth? I thought you lived in Bedford.
I plan to be there tomorrow. I may be bringing a guest.
Regrettably, it appears that I will not be able to attend after all. Much to my sorrow. I really hate a chance to meet [b[rjk**, and even more missing out on a family member’s B’day shebang. Not to mention all of the hugs I’ll be missing out on. pout
Well, have a good one for me, take a sip of champagne for me, and I’ll just have to try harder to make the next shindig.
Take care, all. Have a great time.
On the up side of this, Mr Bear will be home in less than an hour, and he doesn’t have to leave till tomorrow sometime. Sorry, y’all. I know where I plan on being tonight, instead of heading up thataway.

{{{{{{Zyada}}}}}} (Special B’day one for Zy)
I really wish I could be there to celebrate your birthday, Zy…but of course all my best wishes for a wonderful night, weekend, month, year and the rest of your life are coming your way.
It really reeks when so many good friends live so far away.
Oh well, can’t be helped. Give rjk a big hug for me, and make sure he gives you one back…also from me. Somehow I don’t think that is going to be a problem.
Love to y’all, have a wonderful time!
::huggles::
