Diablo 2: Can I move back an Act?

I’ve finished Act I of Diablo 2, but have not yet moved on to Act II.
If I do move to Act II, can I go back to Act I? The reason I would want to is that I have not had an item imbued by Charsi yet.

Also, I heard that “Trav” runs are good experience. Where is this (which Act / Area)?

thanks,

Brian

Yes. Just go to a waypoint, and I believe there’s a tab at the top which lets you select waypoints from different acts. I wouldn’t have Charsi imbue anything for you until Act 3 or so when you’ve found a really good item for your class.

Trav runs refer to Travincal, I’m pretty sure. I don’t remember where that is, but I’m sure another Doper will be along to clarify it for you.

I’m not sure quite what you mean by “trav” runs, but yes, you can go back. If you go to the town portal in each location, there are tabs with the number of each act on them. Once you’ve activated the next act, you can go back and forth any number of times via town portal. I usually don’t get anything imbued by Charsi until Act 3 or 4 so I can get a (potentially) more powerful weapon by bringing back something more appropriate for upper levels (better AC, etc.)

I like to go thru Act 1 twice, once I’ve activated Act 2. Well, maybe not the whole Act, but I like to do the cemetary & catacombs for the money (and Blood Raven’s a lot easier) as well as the tower cellars. Good money there.

Travincal is in Act 3.

You literally can’t miss it

Not since 1.10, anyway.

/misses going right to Durance 2.

Oh, right. It’s been a little while since I played; I’ve been having trouble reinstalling my Diablo on Himself’s new system for some reason. sigh

Yes, you get LOTS of goodies in Travincal. Lots & lots.

When it comes to runs, just keep in mind that dead creatures stay dead (barring another creature with resurrection powers), but you can start a new game. Thus, “Meph runs” would be killing Mephisto over and over again, each time with a new game.

Embarassingly, I never figured this out in classic Diablo, as I always just loaded the old game and never changed difficulties. I always wondered how you got those high level uniques.

Um … now from what I’ve seen. Try this:

  1. Go to the Durance of Hate, level 3.
  2. Kill Mephisto.
  3. Save & Exit.
  4. Reload the same game.
  5. Go to the Durance of Hate, level 3 again.

Voila! Mephisto is once again alive and kicking. And you can kill him again, and get experience points for killing him again, and even get a pile of goodies left behind by him again.

The one thing you do NOT get again is the rewards for completing the “kill Mephisto” Quest. That you can only do once per difficulty level. Also, when you kill Mephisto the first time, I believe you’ll get at least one Unique or Set item. The second and subsequent times you kill him at the same difficulty level, you only get a few Rare items. (Believe me, I’ve tried to get more.)

Palooka, in multiplayer, you can still pass over most of act 3. As long as you have cooperative help, which you will have. Just whisper one of us when you get there (or sooner, if you want to get there sooner).

You’re not guaranteed a unique item (well, other than the Soulstone, of course) the first time you kill Mephisto (or any other boss), but the chances are higher. And if you’re playing multiplayer, there are ways to trick the game into thinking that it’s your first time, every time, but this is really only practical for Baal.

Also incidentally, this game is a lot more fun multi-player, and there are a bunch of us who hang out on Battle.net realm US-West. We’re usually in the game sdmb with password cecil, and we’d be glad to help you out. Don’t worry about starting over, we can get you caught up real quick.
