Diablo 3 on the PS3

I’m playing through Hardcore right now and liking it so far. I’m surprised at how well the control scheme seems to work out. I’m also liking the itemization so far. Anyone else playing?

I just started playing D3 on the PS3 about a week ago. I’m not very far in. I got distracted by Skyrim (which my friends have been nagging me to play).

VERY glad Diablo 3 is now available for me! My computer just couldn’t run it, and it wasn’t a good time for me to upgrade.

I just got the limited edition strategy guide - you get a nice metal bookmark as a special gift. Not sure if it’s worth the additional cost for the limited edition, but it is kind of neat.

Note to anyone interested in checking it out - a demo was released on the Playstation Store a day or so ago.

Then you’re doing it properly! Good work!

/PC gamer, played DIII a good bit when it was released May 2012, liked it well enough but waiting for an expansion to make it more interesting.

//Hardcore is the only way to play

Is it significantly different from the PC version? I can’t tell from the commercials - other than it appears MUCH more colorful than the PC version.

Its not significantly different (I own both versions) - I wouldn’t even say more colourful
What is different (I find it much more fun on console) for three reasons:

  • Having a co op character sitting in the room with you is way more interesting.
  • Arguably, the control system suits console more (in my opinion of course, which is odd as I usually prefer games on the PC)
  • Looting is better - you get much less loot, but more of it is decent. Playing two player co-op we did the entire of act 1 before our bags filled up (you get the same bag space)

In short, I wasn’t a great fan of this on the PC, but got it anyway since I was jonesing for a co-op title and am loving every second

The Diablo Redditors seems to feel that the loot system is currently way better on console than on PC, because Blizzard had to ramp loot quality up because there’s no auction house. People seem to be really happy with it.

I won’t be switching from PC though - too much invested, and I don’t like rebuying games. I’m NoPepper#1812 if anyone wants to add me.

I’m still torn on how I feel about no auction house. I’ve always hated the real money auction house, so I’m glad that’s gone, but I do miss the ability to use it as a fallback to catch your gear back up if you haven’t been getting good drops. Overall though, the itemization on the console seems much better than it was when I played it on the PC. I’ve probably gotten 20-25 or so legendary drops so far, and I’m still not even level 60 yet.

I never played Diablo III on the PC (no one should be shocked by that statement), but I’m loving it on the PS3*. This kind of game is built for a controller and I can’t imagine ever playing it with a mouse/keyboard.

  • It’s on the Xbox 360 too, in case anyone was wondering.

Pretty sure this kind of game was actually built to be played with mouse and keyboard. It just happens to (kind of) work with a controller.

Gone is the accuracy of putting down a firewall, precisely where you want it, specially if where you want ti is between the incoming weak mobs and the big glowing unique behind them.

And sorry, but the inventory management is a complete and utter mess compared to the simplicity of mouse + keyboard.

One really good thing about this though…

Apparently Blizzard is ELIMINATING the auction houses on the PC.

Action RPGs have lived on both platforms for decades. To me, they require a controller. That’s just the way I feel.

Nearly every review of the console versions has mentioned how the console controls are actually superior to the mouse and keyboard except in a few limited scenarios. I spent around 300 hours on the pc version and have been playing the hell out of the xbox version and find it superior in almost every way. Controls are far more comfortable and organic. Loot is insanely better and consistently fun. No online required. No auction house or gold spammers.

Graphics on pc are better and you can see more of the battlefield because of the resolution. Inventory management on console isn’t as easy as pc but it still very easy to manage. Your over blowing how hard it is.

All in a this feels like it’s what d3 was supposed to be at launch.

Loot 2.0 is coming to PC, and it has nothing to do with the gamepad. Online requirements? Does anyone (other than pirates) really care? And again, nothing to do with gamepads.

Loot management is MORE difficult. Significantly so when we’re talking about comparing loot. And you share loot in local co-op, which sucks.

Bottom line is: You prefer gamepads, and therefore you feel the game plays best on them.

This isn’t a objective fact. It is preference. And I’m not saying that the gamepad is bad, only that it is lacking in some instances.

Also, for offline you’ve apparently traded exploits and cheats. They are rampant right now on the console version, as are bugs. Including some that will destroy all your saves.

But but but console games never have bugs, right?

Don’t be that guy again, bro.

I care (for reasons other than piracy). When I’m playing Hardcore, there’s nothing worse than dying because you lost connection to the battle.net servers. The few times I’ve been disconnected from an online host on the console, rather than my character sitting in front of the elite pack and getting killed waiting for the 60 second timeout, I’ve been immediately transitioned to either another host, or to an offline mode.

I never got to inferno in D3, but in all the time I played, I never once got disconnected from BN.

And I’d prefer having the off chance of getting killed vs being overrun with cheats and cheaters.

I don’t think you REALLY want to draw that comparison when talking about a game that was functionally unplayable at its PC launch, do you?

Also, I believe Bliz is only abolishing the REAL MONEY Auction house, so PC gamers will still have/be stuck with (depending on your point of view) the “prentend money” auction house.

And sorry to say, Kin, that it may be subjective, but the numbers seem to be coming down on the side of “Actually, I like the controller better” among people who have actually tried both. Which, I suspect, does not include you.

Actually, have you played this on console at all? And if so, why?

Nope - both auction houses are being shut down.

How are does one get overrun with cheats and cheaters? Other folks duping their items doesn’t effect you. Other folks editing characters to make them super powerful doesn’t effect you. Diablo on consoles isn’t an economy based game so who cares what other folks have.

I’m not sure where you are connecting Loot 2.0 and Online requirements to the gamepad in this discussion. I sure didn’t.

Loot 2.0 is coming to PC? Great. It’s already here on consoles 6mo+ sooner than PC.

Online requirements? I would say people DO care since it’s mentioned in almost every review of the game. Its presence being negative on PC and it’s absence being positive on consoles. You never got disconnected from BN once? You’re the anomaly there.

Loot management isn’t harder on console. It’s just different. Yes, the mouse and keyboard are preferable to the controller for this aspect of the game.

Have you even played the game on console or is this just your typical consoles<<PC ranting? It sounds like you just can’t stand that the console version of a major PC game is being lauded as a far superior game. Play it with the gamepad and then tell me your preferences. It’s like saying “I like Apples better than Grapes even though I haven’t never tried Grapes”
