Diablo 3 supports up to 4 player coop (which is underwhelming, down from 8 in D2) with seamless transition between single player and coop, from what I understand. I’m sure there will be lots of dopers playing together, so I’m creating a thread to coordinate groups who can find each other.
What I don’t know is how level-dependent Diablo will be. Will you need to create a character for each group you want to play with, and only play with them, so that you guys are always at the same level? That’s what I did with friends for games like Borderlands and Dungeon Defenders - otherwise if you had a group where one guy was level 25, one was 21, and 2 were 17… the game either scaled down, and the level 25 guy would just plow through everything, or scale up and the level 17s would be useless and get killed constantly. Will that be an issue in D3? I really don’t know. I wonder how much of a level gap would be viable.
So you may want to find a group where you only play together so you’re always at the same strength and at the same content… or just try to form ad hoc groups that are close enough to be fun for everyone. We’ll have to see how the game plays in practice.
The multiplayer is drop-in/drop-out, so if we all build a large friends list with each other, we’ll probably be able to find level-appropriate games on the fly too.
So go ahead and list your battle tag, when you’re available to play, class preferences (seems like it’d be boring to have multiples of one class in a group), and eventually your characters. Let’s use eastern time just to keep things consistent and simple. Also list your steam name if you prefer to coordinate that way - I know I will, since I won’t be on battle.net all the time, but I will be on steam all the time.
So, here’s me: Battle Tag SenorBeef#1394, Steam SenorBeef, available usually 7pm-1am eastern +/- on weekdays, most afternoons on weekends, not sure about class preferences yet - probably a sorceror for my main but I’ve already got a group for my main character.
So feel free to try to get a group of 4 players for launch day if you don’t have one. After a few days, when people have a firm idea of what their characters will be, we can start posting specific meetup requests, ie something like “want to play with other level 20s on difficulty 2, act 1 this weekend” type stuff.
