Diagnose my PS2 problem, please...

Something interesting has been happening with my 3rd gen PS2. It seems to stop and choke “Cannot read disc” when it reads a particular spot on any of my DVDs. DVDs in question are brand new–they have about 7 TV episodes on each disc, and my PS2 chokes halfway through the 6th episode. What’s happening, and does it need cleaning, or does it need actual repair?

Are they burned discs?

Playstations are notorious for not reading burned discs… At least in my world.

Something about the laser focus and the location of data on a burned vs a real dvd.

Real legit discs. Burned DVDs are definitely not worth the effort to save, what, $5 per disc. You download 6 GB, then you have to upload all 6 gigs back in case they k/b you for bad sharing ratios, then you have to buy the discs, then you have to wait to burn the discs, and then you have to invest the time & money to mod the PS2/DVD-player.

Awful lot of work to save $5 per TV-series disc and $10-15 per movie disc.
