This is something I’ve experienced more and more of lately and I wanted to see if 1, there is a name for the phenomonen, and 2, if anyone else ever goes through it.
The best way to describe it is to give an example:
I was sitting inside the other night playing Total War: Rome. It was about 69 degrees inside and I had been sitting for about an hour. I had to leave the house to see a friend. I threw on a light jacket and went out to the car. It was probably around 58 degrees outside…not warm but not all that cold. Within a few seconds my whole body had locked up when I sat in the drivers seat…all my muscles clenched up and I started to shiver violently. Then I could feel a strange sensation on the surface of my skin. It was very much like when you cut off circulation to a finger and suddely restore it again…like blood is flowing back into the skin. It lasted about 40 seconds and left my stomach muscles sore for days. It has happened many times before but has gotten worse lately. It always happens when I am relatively relaxed and transition from warm or comfortable temps to a little colder. I am normally very comfortable in 55 degree weather but every now and then this happens.
So am I in medical trouble? Anyone else ever have this happen? Many thanks for any replies!
It might be nothing, or it might be something important. The thing is, you’ve described a change in basic metabolic function, and that’s something that warrants looking into, IMHO, IANAD, Etc.
Well, this was more to find out if others share a similar problem. Its infrequent enough that I never bothered going to the doctors…I have some kind of built in doctor avoidance thing going on.
*IANAD but my cousin had a similiar experience a couple of years ago. He was 31 at the time and (not trying to frighten you) it was a small stroke. A T.I.A. to be exact (transitory ischemic attack) He’s ok. On the other hand, I had a few experiences like you describe and they turned out to be severe panic attacks. I’ve had moderate ones my entire life but 3 of them with your symptoms. Either way, you may want to check with your doctor. Why push your luck?
:smack:
oh
my
god
I did it again. Once IN a while. I’m going to just go home, crack open a beer, and curl up in a corner in a fetal position and chew my own knee.
Could be a type of seizure disorder(which can be easily controlled), or could be something more serious or less serious.
Get over that doctor avoidance thing. What if it happened when you were going 60 mph down the freeway in rough traffic?
It’s not worth risking your life. Get a routine physical to rule out the obvious stuff, tell your doctor exactly what you experienced, and how often and under what circumstances. You won’t regret it.
Ok, you guys are right. It has never happened when I was driving and it does not come on out of the blue so there isn’t really a risk of an accident but I get the point. I’ll get it checked and see if the doc can make any sense of it. Thanks everyone for the input!
Interesting…its similar to my experience but for me it passes completely in less than a minute. I don’t get sick or have trouble sleeping later. The shaking is exactly the same though…I always imagined it was some kind of temperature regulation problem my body was having. Thanks for sharing, I’ll let you know what the doctor says.
