Zeldar:
The recent threads involving ethnicity maps and pronunciations by region made me look up http://spark.rstudio.com/jkatz/DialectMap/ where I found a link to
http://spark.rstudio.com/jkatz/DialectQuiz/
I took the 25-question version and here are my results:
Most Similar Cities
1 Metairie LA 34.2
2 New Orleans LA 34.1
3 Baton Rouge LA 33.6
4 Lafayette LA 32.9
5 Mobile AL 31.7
Least Similar Cities
1 Green Bay WI 18.4
2 Syracuse NY 18.5
3 Buffalo NY 18.6
4 Joliet IL 18.7
5 Rochester NY 18.9
I found this amusing since I live in Nashville and spent my early years in Central Alabama.
Do you find your answers worth sharing?
After trying yet again to make it all the way through the 140 quiz, I decided to try again on the 25. I’m happier with these results:
Most Similar Cities
1 Montgomery AL 49.8
2 Birmingham AL 48.6
3 Columbia SC 48.3
4 Columbus GA 48.3
5 Augusta-Richmond GA 48.2
Least Similar Cities
1 Waterbury CT 23.3
2 Springfield MA 24.0
3 New Haven CT 25.2
4 Hartford CT 25.3
5 Sioux Falls SD 28.0
Notice the time of day of this post. I guess I’m doomed to never finishing the 140.

On a different tack I’m trying to locate the specific city/town among the maps at http://spark.rstudio.com/jkatz/DialectMap/ that has the smallest geographic range.
So far the most significant I’ve found has been
Camden NJ
Can you find one with even tighter range?
I’m Australian, and took the quiz for fun. I answered honestly from my point of view. When they asked where I lived I left it blank (because obviously it is intended for Americans, and there was no option to enter a non-American location), but put my real gender and year of birth.
My results for most similar were:
1 Providence RI 29.9
2 Plymouth MA 29.1
3 New York NY 29.0
4 Lowell MA 28.8
5 Yonkers NY 28.8
