And I’m not an idiot who takes “advice” from the slick sitting across from me at the poker table.
In a thread about civility, you accuse liberals of being Nazis.
Classy, dude.
Not to mention that your parents and schools have failed you, but one thing at a time.
Yeah, because what people* remember the Nazis for, above all else, was their economic program.
*And that especially includes those Americans who consider themselves Nazis or neo-Nazis or whatever.
I agree people should be polite.
I also think the moment, years ago now, when Trump started flinging unsupported nonsense about Obama’s place of origin, the former and his ilk pretty much gave away any expectation of politeness.
So I don’t support people rudely accosting even idiots like Spicer in that manner. But I can’t say I really blame 'em either.
Maybe she just thinks she’s doing the right thing by denying Spicer any sort of safe space outside of his home and his office.
And I think that’s a valid thing to do. This isn’t a case of good men disagreeing about the best course for our country. This is about the spokesman for the most powerful man in the world, deliberately spreading toxic lies daily, trying to undermine the very notion of truth that our democracy depends on.
He’s earned the absence of any safe space. We can’t throw him in prison as a traitor, which in a deep sense is exactly what he is. But by actions such as those of this woman, we can imprison him in a narrow cocoon of protected spaces, and make him fear contact with the wider world.
It only took two hours for this thread to go off the rails.
Rando woman lays in to Spicer at Apple Store. Can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
VP nominee’s son gets caught red-handed. I blame the parents, but only for naming him “Linwood”. That’s about as close to child abuse as you can get, and guaranteed to produce a special snowflake.
The Nazi’s calling themselves Socialists had nothing to do with what they actually were. But what people call themselves matters as little as what they are called by others. I can call myself “E-DUB, Ruler of the World”, but I don’t think anybody’s going to be bowing down to me anytime soon. It was a marketing ploy. The Fascists of the thirties called themselves Socialists because Socialism was, at the time, a popular philosophy. It is much the same as contemporary Fascists calling themselves “Conservatives”, even though there’s nothing conservative about them.
It is sort of the political equivalent to the 239th Rule of Acquisition: “Never be afraid to mislabel a product.”
I expect he was named after former Virginia Gov. Linwood Holton - a Republican, incidentally - whose election in 1969 pretty much closed the books on the Dixiecrat era in Virginia.
That just shifts the blame to Gov. Holton’s parents.
As long as we are taking tips on communication strategies, any helpful advice on the importance of not spreading lies?
I’m pretty sure the first amendment says that Republicans are allowed to say whatever they want, whenever they want, about whoever they want, and then nobody else is ever allowed to contradict them, otherwise you are denying their right to speak.
So if a Republican says that Obama was born in Kenya, and is related to monkeys, and his wife is a whore for wearing a sleeveless dress in the summer, that is simply fair comment, and you must not disagree with them, because that would not be polite. You must be respectful of them, and know your place.
You might want to try your own advice.
I don’t think anyone is denying things like this happen. But are they typical? Do people like this represent all liberals or even the average liberal?
Should every conservative be judged by the actions of the most extreme right wingers?
What sort of calm, reasoned dialogue can one have with someone shouting “Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up!”?
I thought you said you were a grown man? This is something I would expect to hear from a middle school student who thinks he’s clever because he thinks he’s just discovered this amazing factoid.
If you think that’s a good one, here’s another to share with your little friends;
North Korea is more formally known as “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” That must mean that the Democrats love it! Hur hur hur!!
For the win.
But now that they’re no longer shouting that, we’re supposed to be nice and polite to them, I guess.
What about the U.S.S.R.?
Who gets to claim that one-Socialists, or Republicans?
Unions.
No, no, not at all. However, liberals should all be judged by the actions of anarchists who throw stones at protests. Because they represent all liberals when they do this. It’s simple really.
Also, when the (Republican) president calls the media “the enemy of the American people”, then that is simply a fact. You should not disagree with him. They are the enemy. And if you disagree, then so are you.
When the (Republican) president says the previous president tapped his phones, then we must believe him, for he is the smartest person ever, and knows more than anyone. He does not need “proof”. He just knows.
