Diane Sawyer WTF?

Here’s an article that covers most of the main points

Not necessarily:
“Huawei and ZTE cannot be trusted to be free of foreign state influence and thus pose a security threat to the United States and to our systems … Malicious implants in the components of critical infrastructure, such as power grids or financial networks, would also be a tremendous weapon in China’s arsenal.”

That was hilarious. I kept waiting for her to say “Y’know, Brian - I really luv you” and then vomit on his suit.

Shodan

Yeah, that wasn’t “exhaustion.” She was audibly slurring, and Stephanopoulos and the two reporters looked highly uncomfortable.

Alcohol or benzo (or both) would be my guess.

She was 3 sheets to the wind–the only other time I’ve ever acted like that is a combination of hungover and lack of sleep.

So it was either Johnnie Walker reporting, or else some happy pills.

The thing that hammered the drunkenness home for me was the slow head turning and watching her own hand moving. That was not tired. Tired makes you jerky and unsteady, not slooooowwww.

From your link:

This is what brought me to post this thread. She was acting just like a college freshman that was getting loaded for the first time, and was everybody’s friend, and wanted to tell everyone how to party.

I would not be surprised to learn that she is a longtime functioning alcoholic. I’m betting her liver can no longer keep up with her tolerance, and/or what we saw was what happens when a functioning alcoholic has to work hours extending past when they normally go home and pass out.

She looked and acted hammered to me. I recorded The Soup last night, I bet they’ll have a compilation clip up of a few of her greatest hics…err hits.

Okay enough of this crap. I am a cameraman. I was in that studio. Within 20 feet of her from 5:00 pm to 2:00 am almost nonstop. I watched her walk, I watched her speak and interact. I was close enough more than once to have smelled booze.

Along with the millions in this country who do NOT live in the public spotlight, she too is allowed to be exhausted yet required to go to work.

So she was drunk.

Did you get a blowjob, too?

Now that would be “Must see TV!”

Apparently I needed to write, " I did not smell booze."

Who knows really. I recall the 2009 performance vividly and had already predicted a repeat. She acts exactly like someone that’s had one too many sips of champagne. Of course, I’ve been wrong before. I noted that Gene Siskel was acting like he’d a few pops on At The Movies not long before he was diagnosed/reported with a brain tumor.

I have no dog in this hunt - we just got power back yesterday so we weren’t watching TV, so I didn’t see her. But once again, the Dope comes through with someone who has the expertise and role to comment directly. Thanks for the insights…

What a cool job! Also, thanks for the info. On-air news personalities seem to work crazy hours, and at her age, I’m not surprised it would catch up with her.

No dog here, either. I don’t know that alcohol would have to be involved, really, but she still didn’t act like the people I’ve worked around who were well into their second day.

“Exhaustion” reminds me of the reason given for many celebs who check into rehab.

I have no bone to pick with her and don’t give a hoot if she had a bottle of Jim Beam or a bottle of Valium before broadcast, I just don’t buy the “exhaustion” angle.

re “at her age” comments. Is Sawyer really that much older than any number of others who were on-air for long periods of time election night?

So you’re saying it was pills, then.

What’s with the blow job comments? They seem a bit left field and (not surprisingly) misogynistic.

I know, I know. Any woman on your TV only exists only for your sexual amusement and thus is open game for sexual jokes, but at least let them be funny.
