I wasn’t sure if I should put this here, or in elections, so if a mod wants to kick it elsewhere, I’m good with that.
Did anyone see Diane Sawyer on election night? I didn’t, but they played some clips on the radio this AM. Here is a you tube clip I found.
To me she sounds like she got into the kick-a-poo joy juice a few hours early. What do you guys think?
Apparently this is not unprecedented for Ms. Sawyer, as she was said to be highly intoxicated on the air back in 2009, (during a live broadcast of Good Morning America) the morning after Pres. Obama’s Inaugural Ball, which she attended and apparently over-indulged at.
Frankly I was more offended by the way she seemed to literally cream in her granny-panties when the election was called for Obama—I get that she’s human and her personal feelings and biases are bound to sometimes show thru, but she is ostensibly a professional journalist (snicker, snort) and her obvious glee with Obama’s victory last night made me think she was actually going to lead her viewers in some spirited victory cheers, complete with her withered, sagging pom-poms shaking directly in the camera’s lens.
I knew that she worked for Nixon years ago, but to me it was 110% crystal clear, glaringly obvious from deep outer space, absolutely no-doubt-in-my-mind that she was beyond thrilled with Obama’s victory last night.
She seemed about as unbiased and objective as Hannity or Limbaugh probably would have been.
(and I say all of the above as an Obama voter—It just seemed incredibly tacky and amature to me, considering her position as an anchor for a major broadcast news program)
I wonder if that’s the reason my local ABC affiliate (KOMO in Seattle) didn’t air the 8pm PST national coverage. All the other local affiliates aired the network coverage (sensibly enough since that’s the hour Obama won) and that struck me as very odd.
The clip in the OP has been removed, but I saw the one linked in the other thread. She was a bit giddy and messed up a couple words, but I highly doubt she was in any way drunk. Lack of sleep sounds like more than adequate an excuse for the minor stumbles.
But maybe I’m biased since she’s on my GMILF list. D
She didn’t seem all that more ditzy than she usually is to me. It as always been readily apparent that she never really understands what she is supposed to be talking about. The lack of sleep just made it more difficult for her to fake it.
I only watched for a few minutes, but the wife and I immediately thought she was tipsy. Unfocused, slurring her words. Stark contrast with the other folks on the set who were crisp and on point.
Granted, I’m not a regular viewer of TV news, so maybe she’s usually that way.
If it’s lack of sleep, then dammit she needs to step down, quit taking the big paycheck for the job, and let someone younger who can handle the demands of the work, do the work. Maybe take a smaller role, that requires less demanding prep, but you can’t get on camera in front of the entire nation looking like you’re drunk.
She was speaking slowly, her words were a bit slurred. She stumbled over Barack Obama’s name, and she asked at least one question (about the Obama campaign’s use of an exclamation point) that seemed odd and left her fellow ABC reporters looking confused and speechless for a moment.
Our cable is still down from Sandy so we went to a local restaurant to watch the returns. The sound was off but my first glance at Diane Sawyer made me think “The hell is wrong with her?” Her eyes were half closed and she looked like she was ready to fall over sideways.
