Had I known that Anaheim was going to stage a six-run comeback in the final three innings against perhaps the best bullpen in baseball, I would have gladly sacrificed my Saturday evening. I would have gladly allowed Tim McCarver and Jack Buck to tear my eardrums to shreds with their inane commentary. I might have even personally fellated a rally monkey or two.
Was the game really as good as it sounds like it was? I almost feel sorry for any Giants fans who had to watch their team self-destruct like that. But then I remember a certain 16-4 drubbing a couple of nights ago, and suddenly those feelings magically disappear.
It was a good game, but it was NOT an INSTANT CLASSIC!!!, no matter what ESPN says. Game 6 of the 1986 WS, now THAT is classic. Game 6 of the 1975 WS, THAT’S a classic.
I always thought that a decent period of time (say, several years) had to pass before the title classic could be bestowed on something, but then again I keep forgetting how the teeming millions these days have an attention span that can be measured in trillionths of a second.
It was a good game. I turned it on in thime to see the 8th inning on. I wish I could be there again tonight. I was at game one when the Angels lost. I wish I had been there last night.
Well, that’s just an excuse for them to be able to run it on ESPNClassic. They know it’s not as good as Game 6 in 75, or even Game 5 in 99 (Indians/Sox ALDS). But they have to call it SOME kind of a classic to rerun it on ESPNC, so they call it an Instant Classic. They do that quite often with games that people might want to watch again.
