Did anyone read 'How to Stage a Coup' in this month's Mens' Journal?

I was just wondering if anyone could try to clear it up for me. It didn’t seem to make much sense.

The writer befriends this old-school mercenary named Nick Du Toit, who wants to stage a bloody takeover of a small African country for fun and because it might land him control of a multi-billion dollar copper mine. The writer is perfectly ok with this. Some years later, Nick gets arrested in the late stages of planning a similar takeover of Equitorial Guinea. The author makes it his mission to free Nick, but Nick doesn’t want to be freed because (???). Later, the author changes him mind and says he “hopes the truth will never set him free” because (???). The article ends here.

It’s in the issue with Harrison Ford on the cover.

I did read it, and I don’t recall why Nick doesn’t want to be freed. I do seem to remember that the author found out about something Nick did, but I can’t recall the specifics.

Sorry I’m not much help until I can go home and look at that article again.
