In fact, over the course of Biden’s career the challenge has been to get him to stop talking.
You mean like this?
I share your skepticism of the OP’s claimed political leanings.
Like waving guns at black protesters and then speaking at the Republican convention, or shooting protesters. That kind of thing. and they get to be all triggered by a woman challenging their leader.
– Will you condemn white suprremacy once and for all?
– What’s up with that “crazy uncle” retweet of the conspiracy theory that Seal Team 6 killed a body double, and the real Bin Laden is still alive?
Yeah, ooh, what a hit job, so unfair. trump makes himself a huge target with all the batshit crazy things he does, says, tweets, and retweets.
Yeah, I watched them both.
Trump was an obnoxious asshole the whole time, blubbering on and arguing with the moderator; there have been times when I thought he’s done well in debates and speeches, but this wasn’t one of them. He was very unlikable.
Biden was much more thoughtful and less obnoxious. I mean, he wasn’t really obnoxious at all; he seemed well-intentioned. But there were many times when he either lost his train of thought or never had one to begin with. The guy is NOT good at talking. Also, he has no concept of humor or comic timing at all. He always tries to make quips and then says “all kiddin’ aside”, as if anyone actually ever laughed when he said it.
Also, does he REALLY expect us to believe that it was the Charlottesville incident that motivated him to run for president? I have seen him say this in a dozen speeches - always with the same preface of “remember the white supremacists coming out of the field, with torches…veins bulging…spewing the same anti-Semitic bile”. (He always mentions the veins bulging.) Obviously it’s a damning indictment of the Trump presidency that these people are emboldened by Trump, but really, THAT was when Biden decided to run for President? I’m pretty sure he decided to run for President as soon as Hillary Clinton lost in 2016.
I seem to remember him taking a long time to announce his 2020 run, long after the other Dem candidates had been campaigning awhile. Maybe just political theater, but I don’t feel like there’s any cynical take to read from it.
I don’t know – when Biden was asked what he would think if he loses the election, his initial response was (paraphrasing), “I’d think that I must have been a lousy candidate.” That’s a pretty self-effacing sense of humor, in my book.
And that’s what’s so crazy about this whining “unfair!” argument. Those are easy softball questions that Trump could knock out of the park. He just can’t bring himself to do it.
Yet, he has a good chance of being re-elected.
What a pitiful state our nation is in!
You have no evidence of this other than your own personal feeling, and yet you use that unfounded personal opinion as a criticism (albeit a mild one) of him. You are basically strawmanning him.
How can a left winger not prioritize removing trump over their dislike of Joe Biden in 2020? It’s not even close.
In this post you are describing someone who should not ever be allowed to wield political power. Yet he has it, and you are disinclined to remove him if it means having Joe Biden in the white house?
The both sides argument here is very strained.
Biden got better ratings than Trump:
The media focused a lot on the immature names he gave his opponents and similar tweets full of gossip and trivia, while not spending enough time on his anti-populist tax breaks and federal judges, which JUST started getting attention (despite him constantly mentioning it)
You made a claim that media has a financial bias:
What does this mean exactly? Can you provide a specific example to support this claim?
As @Lightnin helpfully posted all of the questions in post 31, I don’t think I share your assessment of the questions - they seem equally as “tough.” (Actually, To you, which ones seemed particularly hard (for Trump) or easy (for Biden)?
I constantly hear people use the term “liberal media” when they’re not… “CNN - Communist News Network”… I bet you half of those people don’t know the meaning of the word. They’re not liberal; they try to appeal to a base. MSNBC overtook CNN because they were more pro-Democratic Party…
In the past, the news division always lost money, but it was considered a service… Then FOX/Roger Ailes came along, and since that market was taken, MSNBC went for an untapped market.
They’re in it to make money, instead of reporting the most important issues… If that means showing the Malaysian crash news for months non-stop, they’ll do it if it gets high ratings.
Okay. That’s a fair criticism. 24/7 news networks have contributed more heat than light when it comes to news reporting. “Breaking News” seems to be a permanent banner anymore. Any news, after the first hour, it’s no longer “Breaking” or “News”. So yes, too often news is performative drama, across the political spectrum. Mostly it’s not even news but opinion and commentary as a way to maintain the attention of the audience and sell advertising.
But do you realize that as a news consumer, you have options? I find BBC America to be more traditional while still delivering informative global news. Today, for example, they did a story on the dramatic increase of fighting in Afghanistan against the Taliban, including on the ground interviews with Afghan refugees fleeing the nearly 40 year long war. CNN, MSNBC, FOX… not a word about anything except election politics and corona virus politics.
That said, there is a quantitative difference in reporting of factual information between left and right wing news. So while as consumers the only power we really have is the power of the “off” button with respect to the media format, the other choice we make is in deciding whether we want to hear news based on facts or lies.
Now, how does this relate to your earlier criticism of questions posed to each candidate in their respective town halls? Why do you feel that Biden was getting softballs while Trump getting the tough questions? Do you think your conclusion has something to do with the fact that Biden did not have to lie when responding while Trump’s answers all seemed to be tortured gish-gallop, thereby lending the impression that he was facing tougher questions when in fact pathological lies and avoidance require the same question to be asked again and again in an effort to get to the truth.
I watched Biden’s. I searched but could not find Trump’s, to record it. They’d only said “on NBC”. Later last night on the news they said MSNBC. Alas, it doesn’t look like it’ll be replayed? If it will please let me know so I can tape it.
Biden was great. This was a good format. He still stumbles and doesn’t complete sentences. I’m concerned about his age.
