I was intending not to, but this a.m. my wife said she would watch at least some, so we’ll see what lengths I’m willing to go to to avoid them. Personally, I just can’t stand looking at or listening to Trump, and can’t imagine anything said or done changing my mind. My time would be better spent doing just about anything else.
Yes, we will be watching. We own a television and have cable just so we can watch the Superbowl when the Steelers participate and the presidential/vice-presidential debates.
Other than that, our TV sits unused (I stream Netflix/Amazon on my iPad).
I’ve been avoiding deep dives into current events for some weeks now, and I have serious doubts about watching this … thing … so close to bedtime. Recording it and either deleting it or watching when I’m already worked up…well, I’m already worked up.
Probably be good to see it so as to catch the refs on the late-night comedy shows.
I’ll watch, just so I can “discuss” it with a few friends - I’m in a solidly conservative county, and the trump signage is already out, threatening to block the fall foliage.
I’ll watch with the hope that Trump makes an utter fool of himself. Not sure how long I can stand to hear him though, I already have high blood pressure.
No. Not good for either my blood pressure or ulcer, and Trump’s face, voice and hair irrationally irritate me.
I live in mortal fear that the Orange One will, by his lies and bluster, seem to be a commanding presence and just roll over Biden, or that Biden will say something so profoundly stupid that it will dominate coverage afterwards. I’ll just read the CNN summary the day after instead.
Don’t see the point on watching this or any other general election debate for the rest of my life as i can’t imagine ever voting anything but straight D in any election ever. The only thing that matters is primaries.
Will this be the Officially Designated Doper Live Commentary thread on the debates? So those of us who are emotionally fragile and on medication won’t have to watch fer-real? Heaps of gratitude on the heads of those strong warriors with stomachs (not to mention constitutions*) of steel who will take one for the team.
I was going to find an audio stream except it starts at 9 which is close to my bedtime. If I knew it would start at 9 sharp with no preliminaries I’d catch the first half hour or so. Still might try.
I’m hoping trump makes a fool of himself, and praying Biden doesn’t. I’m encouraged by the reports that trump is doing no debate prep, he thinks he can just ‘wing it’.
Trump will be making a fool of himself to most of us here the moment he opens his mouth, like always. And his fans will not care one bit, as long as it gets all of us here riled-up.
All Biden needs to do here is be the adult in the room and not get drawn into a shouting match, and not get baited with Hunter Biden BS. If he can just appear competent and coherent and talk about what he plans to do he should be fine.
There was some joking in one of the other trump-related threads (the ‘Clusterbleep’ thread in the Pit I think) a couple weeks back about two very ironic songs have played at trump appearances (‘Live and Let Die’ and ‘Fortunate Son’), and what other brutally ironic songs could be played next. Then, as if to top themselves, they played Phil Collin’s “In the Air Tonight” at the recent Pennsylvania rally. Choice lines:
“I can feel it coming in the air tonight”…like Covid spreading through your mostly maskless, packed in like sardines rally, eh?
“If you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand”…this is pretty much the trump admin Covid response in a nutshell, and their health care plan in general.
