Will you watch the debates?

I’d like to, but Mrs. L.A. thinks I devote too much energy into following politics.

I will. In general I don’t listen to Trump and read about him instead. I will watch in the hope that Trump further disgraces himself, not because I think his supporters are reachable, but perhaps they can be demoralized enough to peacefully accept defeat at the ballot box.

No, someone else on Facebook said this so it’s not original with me. “Watching Trump talk is like watching a toilet overflow.”

Let’s make it so. My brother will be watching and giving me updates as well.

I will not be watching for the reasons others have stated.

I really do feel sorry for Biden. Any slip up or mis-statement will be magnified x1000. Whereas Trump will act the fool as usual with no repercussions. Sigh.

I really wish that there was some way we could have avoided this whole charade this time. Wait until some point in the future when we get back to normal candidates before doing them again.

I’m not sure yet, but I’m going to DVR it just in case.

Okay! Did y’all see this?

I might watch a little bit of it with the sound off and the captions on. While following on this thread. With a basin and an ice pack nearby. Maybe some dramamine… Why isn’t dramamine a pill you take to help you cope with drama? Hmmm?

I will not watch it. I physically cannot stand watching or listening to Trump. There is absolutely nothing he could do or say in the debate that would sway my opinion of him, or earn any amount of agreement, support, or my vote. As for Biden, he has my vote and there is nothing he can do or say that would sway my vote away from him at this point. Watching in the hopes of Trump melting down or Biden having one of his legendary “gafs” is just not worth suffering through Trump.

What’s the over/under on the number of times His Orangeness inappropriately uses the adjective “beautiful” to describe something that would never be thought of in that way (i.e. big, ‘beautiful’ healthcare) or he uses “disaster” to describe anything more successful than any of his policies?

Hmmm… a drinking game could make watching more tolerable…

I guarantee if you take “disaster” you will be in the ER for alcohol poisoning within 10 minutes.

I plan to watch, but my husband seems to think I get too worked up about politics. What the fuck is he talking about? Why I oughtta… :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Off topic, but why not replace the cable with an antenna?

Not watching. They are claiming Joes trying to take breaks so he can get an earpiece. I do fear he will mess up (and I do think hes impaired) and that would make me feel bad. I wouldn’t put anything past Trump, wouldnt even put it past him to bait Biden by slamming Beau. I will get up early and check MSNBC and fox to see the soundbites.

“They”, of course, being known liar Rudy Giuliani and other Trump surrogates. With no evidence.

Remember when managing expectations used to be about finessing tricky policy subjects and unpopular past opinions or statements? Now it’s accusing your opponent of being on drugs, having electronic assistance, or literally having dementia (again, without any evidence).

I am remembering the debate way back when between Cheney and Lieberman. So civil, so boring. Those were the days. I will be online here tomorrow reading your clever comments.

An interesting tweet I saw today opined that Biden will certainly win the debate, much like he and every other political pundit believed Hilary won the '16 debate. But he has come to reluctantly accept that Trump has some sort of charisma that he (and I and practically everyone here) is immune to.

Yes, he’s a skilled bullshit artist and that skill has propelled him all the way to the nation’s top political office. It’s hard for me to accept that some of my family think Drunk Uncle Fred’s poorly informed ramblings at Thanksgiving sound like solid practical advice to them.

Kudos to whoever thought of that line.

I’m going to watch, unless I get so depressed or nauseated I have to stop, in the faint hope I’ll get to see Trump completely lose his shit. But I’m willing to try only because I’ll have company to fortify me. This morning I asked my boyfriend, “Do you want to watch the debate together? I can’t do it alone, I might need to bury my girlish little head in your manly chest and weep.”

He answered, “Sure. I might need to clasp your girlish little head to my manly chest, and weep.”

I couldn’t possibly watch. Trump is like a toilet overflowing, and the stakes are so so incredibly high I’d start having panic attacks. I’ll wait for highlights, or maybe read a live blog.

See my post. LOL
