Getting this in late, but hope people will reply through all three debates (if there wind up being three).
Who has decided s/he will absolutely watch all three debates, no matter what?
Who has decided s/he absolutely will NOT watch any of the debates, no matter what?
Who will likely watch one or two, but will see how it goes, i.e. depends on the reports from news sources or this board?
Who just hasn’t decided what the fuck they’re going to do about tonight’s debate or any of the subsequent ones?
And for all of these, why?
I was going to do a poll, but I’m looking for multiple answers, people changing their minds (“Watched the first one-- NEVER AGAIN!” or “Heard people talking, had to see for myself”) over the course of the “debate season.” As we say in Texas, “Vote early and often.”
For myself: my intention right this minute is not to watch any of them, for the same reason I don’t want to watch a bullfight or a hanging. I do plan to follow the debates here (which is what I did with the Obama/Romney debates, and it was [del]just like[/del] better than being there IMHO). Depending on how they go, I may tune in to the later debates.
Frankly, I’m not sure if my nerves are up to actually watch tonight’s debate. I plan on spending the entire 90 mins in here as an observer, but that might be it.
I like to be in bed by 9 PM during the week, but I know I won’t be able to sleep if I don’t know what happened in the debates, so I’ll be watching them all (and paying for it in the morning). Same goes for the election returns.
My biggest fear is being surprised by a Clinton loss. If she’s going to lose, I want to ease into it and know it’s going to happen ahead of time.
I plan to watch all three. I am so fervently never-Trump that nothing that could change my mind about who to vote for, but it’s just something I do in the name of staying informed. Too many people make decisions based on sound bites or third-party summaries; I like to get the whole picture from the original source when I can.
This is me too. I find the whole rehearsed burn / zinger aspect disgusting - this is a job interview to be the leader of the free world, not a Jeffrey Ross Celebrity Roast.
And frankly, the thought of spending more than 10 minutes listening to cheeto jesus spew his garbage while Hillary tries to mount a reasoned defense based on empirical facts and her experience in zzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz…snrfk…anyway, no, I won’t be watching.
I’m not sure. As others have said, there will be a certain amount of pain involved in watching. I’ll probably flip back and forth from the debate to (maybe) TCM or some other far-removed-from-this-reality station.
It’s the whole “taking Trump seriously as a candidate” thing that my brain has never really adjusted to; it’s still hitting me as a bad, bad dream.
I’m going to watch but I have a feeling it will be a non-event. Clinton will be a wonk and express her thoughts intelligently. Trump will be orange and uncharacteristically tight lipped.
Nothing could possibly convince me to vote for Trump, and I don’t want my blood pressure to soar by listening to more of his lies, so I won’t be watching the first one, or any of them.
The other day my wife asked me if I was going to watch. I said “Of course.” But when she said, “Why?”, I found a clear answer elusive.
This is a weird situation, where I find myself so interested in the outcome, yet so powerless to do anything. The information out there is so flawed, yet I keep glancing at it - then having to look away. I guess I keep checking to see if the country has (IMO) come to its senses.
Part of me wants to hope that the apparent closeness of the election is the result of elaborate media machinations to hype a horserace. But I don’t believe that is entirely true.
I guess I’m hoping that something will happen tonight to firmly move the needle Hillary’s way. But, short of Donald whipping out his HUGE cock and slapping Hillary across the face with it, I don’t see that happening. Instead, I imagine I’ll see him be an embarrassment tonight, and tomorrow see how he dominated the debate and has a growing lead over Hillary.
I really wish I didn’t give a shit about these things. I’m pretty sure I could have been diagnosed as mildly depressed after W beat Kerry. This one could well be worse. Every day more and more news outlets and Republicans speak more stridently against Trump, yet his numbers keep growing. The intellectuals, and the less fortunate, are indeed fucked. Our country will keep stumbling on, but it is so sad to piss away opportunities.
For the sake of my blood pressure, I’m planning on not watching any of them. They won’t change who I’m going to vote for, and I can get the highlight reel after the fact. Although if my wife really wants to watch them I’ll sit with her to try to keep her from losing faith in all of humanity.
