Why are you watching the Harris/ Trump debate?

Are you watching the debate tonight for any other reason than to be entertained/ amused/ horrified?

There is nothing that could realistically happen that is going to change my decision about whom to vote for.

Not watching.

I want to watch someone wipe the floor with Trump. Of course, the last time I tuned in to a debate hoping to see such a thing, it was a debacle. Turned out well in the long run though.

Hoping to see Trump completely lose his shit. (possibly literally)

Yeah, and then someone wipes the floor with him! I like it.

I get far too much secondhand embarrassment from watching such debates. I will stay away.

Not watching. Probably due to football, but my excitement for politics is near zero at the moment. I’d imagine Harris will do fine, Trump will be Trump, and neither base will be the wiser.

If I did watch, I would only be looking to see if Harris is able to get some good short content that can be shown during the news cycle/tik tok/twitter, etc. I think the debate format allows for that - for both sides.

Looks like you’d have done better to start a thread asking why people are not watching the debate.

I’m watching.

The reason is to gauge how Harris does in an adversarial environment that’s not a courtroom.

She far exceeded my expectations at the DNC, but that’s a mostly warm and fuzzy environment. Tonight will be different. I want to see the impression she will leave with voters who are undecided and don’t seem to know her very well.

Both of those; though I don’t know whether either of them will happen. That is, I may well think that Harris wipes the floor with him, but I don’t suppose that Trump voters will think so.

Also, I suppose, because I’m being kind of obsessive over this election.

I’m not watching for a simple reason: it starts at 3:00 a.m. my time.
But I wouldn’t sit through it all , anyway.

Yeah, I just want to see the highlights.( If there are any, which I don’t expect.)

I’m really hoping that Harris clarifies her stance on some issues. The CNN interview was a hot mess. She needs to own up to the mistakes that were made, and explain how she’ll fix them.

Secondly, I would love to see a complete oh-no-you-din’t smackdown of Trump that actually infuriates him into apoplexy. Maybe something along the lines of groper-in-chief or FOTUS (Felon Of etc etc).

I can’t watch even 30 seconds of the MAGA Mussolini.

I’ll catch the news reports about it tomorrow.

I’m not watching because i have a conflict. But i wish i could. I think there’s a nontrivial chance of something important happening, like Harris making an ass of herself or Trump having a stroke on live TV. And i want to see it myself and know how i react to it, rather than seeing it after I’ve heard other people’s interpretation.

I made an effort to watch Biden’s debate, and painful as that was, I’m glad i did. Trump actually looked terrible, but that was overshadowed by Biden looking frail and confused. And I’m glad i knew that first hand.

I’m watching because this is the most consequential election in our lifetimes, and this may have a significant bearing on the outcome.

I don’t think there anyone who cares what her stance on is for any issue. Sure, it’s better if I agreed with her on fracking, mortgage assistance and NATO, but she’s got my vote even if I disagree with her on a lot of things.

I thought she nailed it. Perfect content and tone. (too many commercials but that wasn’t her fault)

On this we agree.

I’m going to a watch party at a restaurant. Good food, drinks, what’s not to like?

Hopefully it won’t be a train wreck like the last one but, at least, I will have drinks this time.

I won’t be watching live, as it will go on past my bedtime. But I will try to learn about it. See, I didn’t even bother reading about the last one, and it was a huge mess. I mostly just want to know that didn’t happen again.

But I’m kinda hoping Trump has a Biden moment himself. He has shown the same symptoms Biden did, but now a lot more people are watching, and there will be a lot more stress.

Plus it could be good to see what MAGA conspiracies come up, and hopefully see normal people’s reaction, instead of just people in their bubble and people refuting the lies.

In case you missed it, her website has released her policies now, ahead of the debate. And, of course, the DNC voted on the policies of the party as a whole, all of which align with the ones she had said publicly before.

It would be weird to write a policy document that wasn’t intended to be followed (or at least used in the election.)

I’ll watch (listen actually) because, you know, civic duty, important election, all that. I don’t expect to enjoy it much. We’ll see how long I last. Although… I would love to hear Ms. Harris mopping the floor with the Orange Fraudster.
(I also listened to about half the last one. Absent the video, it wasn’t obvious that Biden did that badly.)
