Did Bin Laden Say Don't Drink Coke After October ???

Has anyone heard anything about this? Is it an urban legend I haven’t heard about? …

An Indian-looking guy at the local grocery store ran short a coupla dollars of his total due and a lady in line behind him paid the cashier the $2 he needed.

When she went out to her car, he came over to her and said, "Thanks for the favor, lady, since you did me a good deed, I’ll do you one…

“Starting in October don’t drink Coca-Cola.”

I’ve checked the web & urban legend archives, but don’t have time to look far. Anybody ever heard of anything like this?

Sounds like an UL to me.

Nonsense. Like somebody who would participate in a plot to kill millions would risk capture over his conscience telling him to return a small favor.

Snopes is your friend.

Unfortunately I posted this twice–thus, Ihave been corrrected twice, but you guys were MUCH nicer than those on the other post!

Thanks. I suspected it was a UL, but didnt know about snopes and didn’t have time to search.

I knew I could get the bottom line here.

Now, can we kill this thread?

ok, i have never heard of the stranger coming up to you and saying whatever… and i am not aware of bin laden making any such comment… but i can offer this:

Muslim dominated areas in the city of Bombay, India, had for a while stopped selling coke and pepsi and some other drinks considered “western” in restaurants and stalls. I had heard about this but not experienced it till i had gone out for dinner during a muslim festival to a predominantly muslim area. I was surprised that they did not serve any bottled soft drinks, except for Indian made ones, with dinner. I am not sure whether this is still the case. And i am not sure what their reason for boycotting coke and pepsi etc. was.

i did a search on some of the leading Indian news websites, and these are the matches i got:

"
The boycott of US and British products had come following a series of meetings by several Muslim groups, especially hoteliers, to protest the killings of civilians during the US bombing of Afghanistan. The IHA had joined the agitation and exhorted its member hotels to stop stocking and serving US products. The Darul Uloom at Deoband issued a fatwa banning US and Israeli products.

From October 28, the ban had become total with most Muslim localities and shops clearing the products off their shelves."

So, yes, there was a ban (or boycott, actually) on coke and pepsi and other US and UK based products in some areas of India for about a month or so in october of 2001. Some places might still not be serving these products, but it seems that most have withdrawn from the ban due to commercial reasons.

these are all urban legends, abnd they are all excactly the same. a guy who works for my dad claimed that his brother had visited london last year. when he was there an arab gentleman supposedly left his bag near a bench and the guy returned it to him.
he said ‘thank you for the favour, blah blah blah, and ill do you a favour, blah blah blah, stay out of london on sucha date’’

just ignore all of these stories
